The director tried to make a Kamal Hasan out of Venkatesh garu. Okay, but the plot was derogatory, scenes were uninteresting and in the end loss after all fight. What did he expect , please sailesh garu this is a competetive,costly FEILD and even in Mahanadi, Kamal loses hand saves daughter. But, violence,more violence, scrap, nunanserin or some medic, a lot could have been made. Please take suggestion from Trivikram sir or Paruchuri garu etc. Even I made gross mistakes in life , so, please be practical. What was the intention for sad ending,,,??? Best of luck next time .

What’s “ Love Guru ” about?

Encumbered by familial obligations Aravind (Vijay Antony) delays his wedding plans and persists in developing his professional life in Malaysia. It was only after in late thirties, he thinks of getting married and developed feelings for  his relative Leela (Mirnalini Ravi) upon arriving in India.

Leela’s father, who strongly opposes her ambition of becoming a movie heroine, promptly consents to the alliance of Aravind. She reluctantly weds Aravind.

After getting married, Aravind discovers his wife’s genuine aspirations, and she married him without any interest or love. To what extent will he go in order to win her love?

“Love Guru,” the dubbed version of the Tamil film “Romeo,” has a fairly typical plot. The opening scenes of a male protagonist avoiding marriage plans for the sake of his family and responsibilities are reminiscent of many Telugu films. However, when the lead pair marry, the film becomes much more enjoyable.

The scenes involving Vijay Antony and Mrinalini Ravi following their marriage have provided a decent amount of entertainment. Furthermore, the sequences involving VTV Ganesh (who rose to prominence in Telugu due to his unique dialogue delivery in films such as “Beast” and “Jailer”) are quite entertaining. Yogi Babu’s comedy track has included some more hilarious scenarios.

But the film becomes somewhat predictable after a certain point. Furthermore, the main plot of a husband attempting to win his wife’s love after discovering her ‘modern’ attitude bears a striking resemblance to Shah Rukh Khan’s film “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.”

Although newcomer Vinayak Vaithiyanathan expertly directs the first half of the film, the latter sections suffer from a lack of elegance, as many situations become repetitive and fail to make a significant impact.

Nonetheless, the film succeeds because of its feel-good moments.

Among the actors, Vijay Antony shines in this film, displaying his comedic talent, which diverges from his typical style of acting. He is good at crucial sister sentiment sequences. Mirnalini Ravi’s portrayal is impressive.

The technical department is just okay. Music is a big letdown.

Bottom line: “Love Guru” showcases Vijay Antony in different avatar and he seizes this chance to shine. While the story is predictable and some portions are too regular, the film provides a fair amount of fun moments and makes a decent watch.

How rrr’s success brought a wave of telugu-language movies to netflix, netflix's u.s. catalog has more content in telugu than in german, russian, or any dialect of chinese..

• Since 2022, Netflix has tripled the amount of Telugu content available to U.S. subscribers from 35 to 105 titles.
• Non-English content will soon account for more than half of Netflix’s content spending.
• Malayalam and Tamil content has also grown significantly.

Since its release in March 2022, the Telugu-language film RRR has become one of the most celebrated Indian films in recent memory. The action epic garnered international acclaim and even won an Academy Award in 2023 — the first Indian production ever to win an Oscar. It has also had a surprising secondary effect: It sparked a boom in Telugu films available to Netflix customers in the U.S.

Telugu is spoken by 95 million people, mainly in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in southern India. There are just 1.2 million Telugu speakers in the U.S., but according to data from streaming tracker ReelGood , it is now the ninth most popular language in Netflix’s U.S. catalog. American subscribers can watch more films created in Telugu than those shot in German, Russian, or any dialect of Chinese.

When RRR was released in 2022, Netflix hosted just 35 Telugu-language titles on the service for American viewers. In the two years since, that number has tripled to 105 titles, ranging from both entries of the epic Baahubali series to the romantic drama 18 Pages . 

Oddly enough, even though RRR was filmed in Telugu, the Telugu-language track isn’t actually available on Netflix. The streaming giant only secured the rights to stream the film dubbed in Hindi, English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Turkish. Indian streaming service Zee5 purchased exclusive rights to the original Telugu version, as well as dubs in Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.

After years of international expansion, Netflix’s U.S. catalog is now evenly split between English and non-English content. As of February 2024, just under half the titles available in the U.S. — 3,307 out of 6,639 — were originally recorded in English. 

There has also been a corresponding rebalancing of the company’s spend on content. Non-English content is set to account for more than half of Netflix’s spending for the first time this quarter, according to a recent report from Ampere Analysis .

The rise in Telugu content has accompanied a smaller jump in other south Indian languages. Content in Malayalam (spoken in India’s southwestern state of Kerala) nearly doubled, climbing from 23 titles to 45 between 2022 and 2024. Tamil content grew from 75 titles to 86 over the same period. Oddly, Hindi — one of India’s official languages — has actually seen a decline in titles available in the U.S. Netflix library.

Other Asian countries are also seeing a boom in the availability of titles in their native tongues. There was a similar jump in content from South Korea, which rose from 191 titles to 294. It comes amid the growing global popularity of Korean cultural exports like K-pop, but it also coincides with the breakout success of Netflix’s original series, Squid Game .

In part, the shifts may have resulted from the structure of modern content licensing deals. As Netflix pushes for greater market share in countries like India, it usually seeks out region-specific content to appeal to local users. And when Netflix acquires a title, it’s often relatively cheap to purchase the right to stream it globally, too.

“Content owners know very well that there’s no incremental benefit for them to not give Netflix the licensing rights to distribute outside of their markets,” Laurent Yoon, an analyst who covers Netflix for the investment firm AllianceBernstein, told Rest of World . “Oftentimes they don’t have the resources to distribute in the U.S. anyway … If there’s no downside for Netflix, why not?”

At the same time, there’s a growing U.S. audience for international content — an audience that seems to be seeking out Netflix over other services. In 2022, the research firm Parrot Analytics found that foreign-language shows made up more than 10% of the demand for Netflix originals, nearly double the same figure for Amazon’s Prime Video.

There is also a growing portion of U.S. viewers who use subtitles for all content regardless of language, which may make foreign-language content less daunting. A recent study found that half of American viewers watch most videos with subtitles — a number that rose to 70% when restricted to subjects younger than 26 years.

But above all, it’s a sign of how doggedly Netflix has pursued content that can be marketed to global audiences. In a recent earnings call, co-CEO Ted Sarandos hinted at that strategy while talking about the platform’s live-action remake of the Japanese anime One Piece . “This show is number one in 84 countries around the world,” Sarandos told analysts , “which is something that Stranger Things didn’t do, that Wednesday didn’t do.”

2024 will see the addition of new Telugu movies on Netflix to add to its already growing catalog of South Indian cinema classics and newer fare.

There is a large slate of new Telugu movies on Netflix in 2024, some of which have already been released on the streamer and others that are set to appear in the weeks and months after their theatrical releases. The Telugu language film industry is popularly known as Tollywood and it's an offshoot of Bollywood . While Bollywood may have a larger cultural footprint, the Telugu movie market actually surpassed the Hindi one in 2021 (via Business Today ). Many still may have higher expectations for upcoming Bollywood movies in 2024 , but Tollywood has its share of exciting releases.

With the incredible success of RRR , Tollywood movies have never been more poised to break out of the South Indian and South Asian markets and become, like RRR , international hits. Like Bollywood movies, Tollywood also features dance numbers, impossible physics, and plenty of delightful melodrama, but Telugu films have a greater focus on action and tend to cater to a pan-Indian audience rather than specifically a Hindi-speaking one. All this and the bevy of new Telugu language movies coming to Netflix in 2024 indicate Tollywood is here to stay.

9 Hi Nanna (2023)

Available on netflix january 4, 2024.

Released theatrically on December 7, 2023, and appearing on Netflix less than a month later, Hi Nanna is a romantic drama directed by Shouryuv in his directorial debut. The film tells the story of a six-year-old with cystic fibrosis, Mahi (Kiara Khanna), who meets a mysterious but kind woman, Yashna (Mrunal Thakur). With Yashna's help, Mahi convinces her father Viraj (Nani) to tell the story of Mahi's mother, who disappeared years ago . What no one expects is just how critical Yashna ends up being to both this story and Mahi.

Hi Nanna has fantastic chemistry between its two leads and is a heartwarming tale that powers through some of the weaker moments of the story. The film earned over $1.5 million at the US box office (via Times of India ), a milestone for the new filmmaker. It was also nominated for 15 awards and won in each category over three ceremonies: Behindwoods Gold Hall Of Famers Event 2023, Athens International Art Films Festival (March Edition), and Oniros Film Awards, New York (March Edition).

The 10 Best Bollywood Movies On Netflix

8 salaar: part 1 – ceasefire (2023), available on netflix january 20, 2024, salaar: part 1 - ceasefire.

Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire premiered in theaters on December 22, 2023, and then ended up on Netflix a month later, in 2024. Set in the fictional dystopian city-state of Khansaar, Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire depicts the friendship between Deva (Prabhas), a tribesman, and Varadha (Prithviraj Sukumaran), the prince of Khansaar . When his father is threatened by a coup d'état, Varadha calls upon his friend Deva to save his crown.

The film earned upwards of 715 crore worldwide, or around $85 million US (via Hindustan Times ), making it the highest-grossing Telugu film of 2023, the third highest-grossing Telugu film of all time, the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of 2023, and 11th highest-grossing Indian film of all time. Not just a commercial success, Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire also earned a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes and a sequel is already in the works, titled Salaar: Part 2 – Shouryaanga Parvam and set for release in late 2025 (via DNAIndia ).

7 Guntur Kaaram (2024)

Available on netflix february 9, 2024.

Guntur Kaaram follows the tumultuous life of Veera Venkata Ramana (Mahesh Babu), whose family is torn apart by political scheming and personal vendettas . Set in Guntur in 1998 and later in 2023, it explores the repercussions of a violent incident that lands Ramana's father, Satyam (Jayaram), in jail. As Ramana navigates a world of corruption and betrayal, he discovers shocking truths about his family and must fight to protect them. Released in theaters on January 12, 2024, Guntur Kaaram landed on Netflix on February 9, 2024.

The film only earned 172 crore at the worldwide box office, or $20.5 million US (via Pinkvilla ), making it a box office bomb and the lowest return for any Mahesh Babu film since 2019. Guntur Kaaram does have many issues, including its plotting, music, and screenplay, but Babu is in top form, managing to carry the film alone and ensuring it's still an enjoyable watch.

6 Tillu Square (2024)

In theaters march 29, 2024; netflix release date is unknown.

Tillu Square , a romantic comedy-drama from Mallik Ram, is a sequel to the 2022 DJ Tillu , and it was released theatrically on March 29, 2024. Digital distribution rights were purchased by Netflix, but it's unknown when the film will appear on the streamer (via M9 ). Siddhu Jonnalagadda reprises his role as Bala Gangadhar Tilak aka "DJ Tillu", and this time around, DJ Tillu's love interest is Lilly Joseph (Anupama Parameswaran).

Lily turns out to be more than meets the eye when she reveals she's an undercover Indian Special Forces agent sent to assassinate underworld kingpin, Sheikh Mehboob (Murali Sharma). Twelve days after release, Tillu Square had already earned 75 crore, around $12.5 million USD, a significant amount (via Koimoi ). Funny and action-packed, Tillu Square makes clever callbacks to the original film while still being a worthy successor. A third film in the franchise, Tillu Cube , is announced at the end of the movie though no news has come out.

5 NBK109 (2024)

In theaters may 15, 2024; netflix release date is unknown.

Nandamuri Balakrishna stars in the upcoming NBK109 , a Telugu action drama set for release on May 15, 2024, and the rights for digital release have already been purchased by Netflix, though it's unknown how long after the theatrical release it will appear on the platform (via Cinema Express ). Not much is known about the upcoming movie, but Bobby Deol and Urvashi Rautela are set to appear alongside Balakrishna, who, as he often does, will be playing the powerful and skilled hero taking down some kind of antagonistic organization .

This is Kolli Santosh Ravindra's (who often works under the name Bobby Kolli) sixth film and the music is composed by S Thaman. From the teaser trailer, NBK109 looks to be a fiery and intense action thriller with the same entertaining central performance from Balakrishna that audiences have come to expect from the prolific star.

4 Gangs Of Godavari (2024)

In theaters may 17, 2024; netflix release date is unknown.

Gangs of Godavari has gone through a few production delays, at one point even being replaced by Gangs of Godavari star Vishwak Sen's epic thriller Gaami (via Times of India ). First set to release in December 2023, then moved to March 2024, before finally getting a May 17, 2024 release date for theaters, it appears that Gangs of Godavari is on its way. Sen posted on Instagram to his 1.3 million followers in March 2024 about the film's release,

"Get ready to witness the Most rugged and violent tale from the banks of Godavari! Mass ka Das @vishwaksens’s #GangsofGodavari to release on 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟳𝘁𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰, worldwide. Meet you in theatres this Summer. #GOGOnMay17th"

Not much more is known about the project, but Netflix does have the digital release rights (via OTTplay ). When they plan on putting the film on their channel is currently unknown . Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the soundtrack and background score and the film is also set to star Anjali, Neha Shetty, Nassar, and P. Sai Kumar among its ensemble cast.

3 Devara: Part 1 (2024)

In theaters april 5, 2024; expected on netflix may 31, 2024.

Devara , or Devara: Part 1 , is a Telugu action movie from director Koratala Siva that is set to release theatrically on April 5, 2024. Netflix gained the rights for digital distribution, which stipulate that the streamer must wait a minimum of 56 days after its theatrical release before Devara can be placed on the platform, meaning May 31, 2024, is the earliest date it may appear (via News18 ). The movie is set to star N. T. Rama Rao Jr. as the titular character, Devaraju "Devara".

This will be N. T. Rama Rao Jr.'s first role since his starring performance in RRR as Komaram Bheem. It's also the second collaboration between director Koratala Siva and N. T. Rama Rao Jr. after their 2016 film, Janatha Garage , another popular movie. Expectations are high for Devara and the filmmaker has lofty hopes for the series as well, considering he titled it " Part 1 ".

2 Buddy (2024)
