Kohli was part of the World Cup-winning team in 2011 and became the first Indian batsman to score a century on World Cup debut.

Kohli made his Test debut against West Indies at Kingston and performed poorly in the series, amassing just 76 runs in five innings. In 2015, he became the first Indian batsman to score a century against Pakistan in a World Cup match.

During South Africa's tour of India, he became the fastest batsman in the world to make 1,000 runs in T20I cricket, achieving the feat in his 27th innings.

During the ODI tour of Australia, Kohli emerged as the fastest batsman in the world to cross the 7000-run mark in ODIs, and the fastest to score 25 centuries.

During the 3 match Test series against Sri Lanka at home in 2017, he became the first batsman to score six double hundreds as a captain. That year, he scored a total of 2818 international runs, the third-highest by an Indian in a calendar year and highest ever by an Indian player.

In August 2018, he ranked no. 1 in the ICC Test rankings. With this, he became the seventh Indian batter to achieve this milestone. He became the first Indian, first captain and tenth overall to hit three successive centuries in ODIs in October 2018.

For the tri-series in Zimbabwe in 2010, Raina was named captain while Kohli was made vice-captain. During this, he emerged as the fastest Indian batsman to reach 1,000 ODI runs.

He was appointed as vice-captain for the 2012 Asia Cup due to his excellent performance in Australia.

Kohli captained the 2013 West Indies tri-series winning team after Dhoni injured himself during the match. He also captained a five-match ODI tour of Zimbabwe, which India won by 5-0, their first in any away ODI series.

He was named vice-captain for the 2014 ICC World T20 Competition where India emerged as the runner ups and Kohli as Man of the Tournament as he amassed 319 runs in the tournament.

He led India in the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka which India won by 5-0. It was the second whitewash under his captaincy and fourth in India's ODI history.

He led India in the first Test of the Australian tour and scored 115 runs in the first innings, thereby becoming the fourth Indian to score a hundred on his Test captaincy debut. Dhoni announced his retirement from Test cricket at the conclusion of the third match between India and Australia, and Kohli was appointed as the full-time Test captain ahead of the fourth Test at Sydney.

At Sydney, Kohli scored 147 in the first innings and became the first batter in the Test cricket history to score three hundred in his first three innings as Test captain. He was named as captain of the 'Team of the Tournament' for the 2016 World Twenty20 by the ICC.

He captained India in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. India entered the finals but lost to Pakistan. Kohli also captained the 2019 Cricket World Cup where India failed to reach the finals after losing the semi-final match against New Zealand. India's first whitewash under Kohli's captaincy was India's tour of New Zealand in 2020.

India lost the 2021 ICC World Test Championship Final to New Zealand, Kohli's third defeat as captain in knockouts and finals of ICC tournaments. India failed to make it through the semi-finals in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 under Kohli's captaincy.

Netizens unleash brutal memes after Virat Kohli's IPL blunder

Netizens unleashed brutal memes on social media after Virat Kohli's controversial dismissal in the IPL clash between RCB and KKR.

Netizens unleashed brutal memes on social media to describe their respective perspective on the controversy related to Virat Kohli 's dismissal in the Indian Premier League ( IPL ) clash between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru ( RCB ) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday.

While some came out in support of Virat Kohli, suggesting that umpires wouldn't have taken such a decision if Rohit Sharma's Mumbai Indians (MI) were involved in the contest , others supported the umpires, claiming that the talismanic RCB batter was out.

After the Shreyas Iyer-led KKR posted a healthy 222/6 on the board, RCB's opening pair of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis had their work cut out as they needed a blistering start to their run chase and the former did begin in explosive fashion, smacking a boundary and a maximum in the first over of his side's essay.

The 35-year-old talismanic batter followed it up with another sumptuous six over the long-on boundary off the bowling of Mitchell Starc to advance RCB's score to 27/0 in only 2 overs.

However, drama unfolded on the maiden delivery of the next over when Harshit Rana produced a high full-toss and took Virat Kohli by surprise. As he was rushed into the shot, the former RCB skipper couldn't get any timing and the ball ballooned in the air. Subsequently, he was caught and bowled by Harshit Rana and KKR and the home side's fans erupted in celebrations at the historic venue.

Yet, to the naked eye, it appeared to be an over-the-waist no ball, and Virat Kohli asked for a review. But his DRS call wasn't considered as the on-field umpire had himself referred the decision to the third umpire.

English umpire Michael Gough, who was occupying the third umpire's chair adjudged Virat Kohli out, infuriating the latter to the extent that the Delhi-born cricketer argued with the on-field umpires before leaving the ground. Later, he was clicked hitting his bat on the boundary rope in anger.

Cricket pundit Harsha Bhogle, who was commentating on the match at the time of the incident, stated, “RCB have been robbed here.”

According to ICC's rule for over-the-waist deliveries, “Any delivery, which passes or would have passed, without pitching, above waist height of the striker standing upright at the popping crease, is to be deemed to be unfair, whether or not it is likely to inflict physical injury on the striker. If the bowler bowls such a delivery the umpire shall immediately call and signal No ball.”

The incident caused quite a stir on social media, with Virat Kohli's former RCB teammate and ex-South Africa captain AB de Villiers, terming the decision as a “grey area in the game.”

“Grey areas in the game open up room for anger and confusion. It’s not a tough fix this. Get the batter’s stance, draw the lines and use ball tracking. No confusion whatsoever,” AB de Villiers said in a post on X.

Former India opener Navjot Sindhu, known for calling a spade a spade, minced no words in declaring that Virat Kohli was not out.

“Chhati thok ke kahunga not out, rules have been changed, the laws which are in the favour of the game must be upheld. It was a beamer, and whenever a bowler throws a beamer, he usually apologizes and when the impact of the ball occurs with the bat, it is almost 1.5 feet above, so I think the rule should be changed,” Navjot Singh Sidhu said on Star Sports.

Despite many former cricketers asserting that Virat Kohli was not out, fans on the microblogging site criticized him for his on-field behavior.

They compared him with the current Team India captain Rohit Sharma and the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, claiming that they never engaged in a confrontation with the umpires.

Some even went on to address him as “Chokli” – an acronym negatively associated with Virat Kohli, with his haters alleging that he never scores runs in big-ticket contests.

Virat Kohli would have hurt even more as RCB lost in a last-over thriller by the barest of margins. With 21 needed to win in the 20th over, Karn Sharma brought the equation down to 3 off 2 balls after smacking Mitchell Starc for three sixes in the first four balls.

Just when it looked like RCB would run away with their second victory in IPL 2024, Mitchell Starc dismissed Karn Sharma on the fifth delivery before Lockie Ferguson was run out on the next, leaving the South India-based team heartbroken.

After the shattering loss, RCB is now at the bottom of the table, having registered only one win in eight fixtures in the 17th edition of the IPL, nearly ending their hopes of making it to the playoffs.

Meet UCLA medical school 'fat pride' staffer with a compulsory class

Posted: 26 April 2024 | Last updated: 26 April 2024

UCLA medical school had been condemned by a renowned Harvard doctor for forcing students to take a 'fat-positivity' class. All first year medical students at UCLA are required to read an essay by Marquisele Mercedes (pictured), a self-proclaimed 'fat liberationist' who claims that 'fatphobia is medicine's status quo' and that weight loss is a 'hopeless endeavor.' Mercedes's article, titled 'No Health, No Care: The Big Fat Loophole in the Hippocratic Oath,' is on the required reading list for the mandatory Structural Racism and Health Equity course. The class syllabus, obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, shows what students at the elite medical school are learning - which has attracted attention from experts nationwide who disagree with the teachings of the course.
