01 PhD - Eligibility & Guidelines

Candidates who have qualified a Master's degree from any university recognized by the UGC (with at least 55% of the required marks, or a CGPA of 5.5 or above on a scale of 1 to 10) are eligible to register for a PhD at NIMS University Rajasthan.

• The Directorate of Research (DoR) will determine whether a candidate's qualifying degree from a foreign university or institution is equivalent before confirming their registration for a PhD program at NIMS University Rajasthan.
• The degree would be granted from the Faculty in which the candidate received his or her PG degree, but the individual would be permitted to register for a PhD in a department related to his or her field of study.
• Marks required for master's degrees
• Candidates who have successfully completed the M.Phil., UGC-CSIR NET, JRF, SLET, GATE, or Teacher Fellow programs are exempt from the entrance exam.

Research Policies & Guidelines

NUJ will comply with all applicable rules and regulations laid down by UGC with respect to Ph.D. Programme. Research Board assists scholars in regulatory compliance. We address numerous guides and resources to staying compliant while conducting research and explain important aspects of the program viz. admission procedure, registration, Semester- course work, implementation methodology, conduct of examination, submission of research proposal, appointment of supervisor/co supervisor, Ph.D. thesis submission, evaluation of scholar performance leading to the award of Ph.D. degree etc. The candidates admitted to the Ph.D. programme are expected to be aware of the basic philosophy of the academic program of the University. The University follows semester pattern and a candidate is required to register in the prescribed Ph.D. courses by filling the registration form and paying requisite amount of fees.

Nirwan University Jaipur Ph.D. Programme Steps To Follow

Appear for Nirwan Research Entrance Test (NRET) or Submit your Entrance Test Score of UGC-NET (including JRF) CSIR/ ICMR/ GATE, cleared within the last 2 years.

Presentation & Discussion on your research interest followed by Personal Interview with the panel

Entrance Exam Result will be notified on University Website

Qualified candidates will be intimated through mail to offer the admission

Confirmation of the Candidate Registration after depositing Enrolment fee and required Academic documents (Now called the Research Scholar)

Notification by the University about the commencement of scheduled Course Work classes after depositing the course work fee and semester tuition fee

Course Work exams and declaration of result notified by University

Allotment of Supervisor on the recommendation of Research Board

Research Scholar to submit the his/her research plan (synopsis) to Research cell after the recommendation by University Research Committee (URC)

Monitoring of Research Scholar progress report by URC in every semester

Publication/Conferences/Seminars participation must be done as per UGC guidelines

Pre-Submission of Thesis after the 30 months of Ph.D. registration

Final submission of Thesis to research cell after the recommendation of URC

Ph.D. Viva Voce examination after successful approval by three examiners

Award of Ph.D. Degree on successful performance in Ph.D. Viva Voce

The various departments of the University conduct Workshops/Training programmes/Short Term Courses/Guest Lecturers/Seminars/Conferences/Webinars/Sensitization Programmes on a regular basis in order to promote research culture within the university. • In order to increase the number of research projects, faculty members having projects are considered for Performance Award Scheme (PAS).

J AIPUR: Three nurses sent proposals to state govt to allow them to use the title of 'Dr' after completing PhD programmes in nursing, which the health department of Rajasthan rejected recently.

The nurses sent their proposal to directorate (non-gazetted) of health department. Many nurses are showing interest in research in the state and, after completing their doctoral programmes, they are seeking permission from state govt to use the title of "Dr".

The director (non-gazetted) of health department got back to them on Feb 8 stating that the administrative department has denied permission to nurses posted in the health department to use the title of "Dr" even if they have completed PhD in nursing.

Jogendra Sharma, principal of govt college of nursing in Jaipur, said: "Nurses are using 'Dr' as a title after completing PhD in nursing but, in govt sector, it is not easy. It is like changing the entire name for which a process is followed, and it is changed only through gazette norms."

Nurses working in govt healthcare facilities are discouraged with this position of the state govt."If govt allows nurses to use 'Dr' title, it will encourage nurses to do more research which will benefit patients," Narendra Singh Shekhawat, a nurses leader posted at SMS Hospital, said.

Several students and faculty from the University at Buffalo’s School of Nursing presented research during the Eastern Nursing Research Society’s annual conference, held in Boston on April 3-5. UB representatives disseminated a range of research topics that include care access, health disparities, mental health, palliative care, oncology, and health technologies, among others.

Two UB nursing students earned awards for their research:

• Kathryn Ledwin received the 2 nd place award for PhD student posters for “Heart Failure Trends After COVID-19: A Significant Shift in Healthcare Utilization Pattern” (co-author: Sharon Hewner).
• Skylar Bard received the 3 rd place award for undergraduate student posters for "Impact of a Mobile App Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program on Stress and Anxiety in Underserved Communities” (co-author: Yu-Ping Chang).

Duke School of Nursing Leads the Charge in Advancing Health Equity through AI Via Newly Launched FAIR HEALTH Initiative

FAIR HEALTH Initiative Duke University School of Nursing has launched a new resource called Fostering AI Research for Health Equity And Learning Transformation Hub (FAIR HEALTH™). FAIR HEALTH has a dual mission focused on education and research, ultimately aimed at achieving health equity through advancements in AI education and research. This first of its kind initiative is led by Dr. Michael Cary, PhD, RN, Elizabeth C. Clipp Term Chair and Associate Professor and Glenn Setliff, Interim Vice Dean Information Technology & Facilities.

“The focus is on creating and applying AI systems in a manner that promotes fairness, reduces biases, and ensures that the benefits of AI are shared broadly across different populations,” said Dr. Cary. “This pioneering initiative is set to revolutionize how health professionals are educated and how healthcare research is conducted.”  

“The goal is to provide the technology resources and practical training needed for Duke School of Nursing to become a leader in AI among our peer schools of nursing and within Duke University and Health System,” said Interim Vice Dean Setliff. “Understanding and providing access to these systems requires that we do the work of staying up-to-date on AI trends and the possibilities that they bring.” 

AI plays a crucial role in healthcare for several key reasons:  

AI enables the tailoring of treatments to individual patients based on their unique health data and genetic makeup. This personalized approach can improve treatment outcomes and reduce the trial-and-error process in finding effective therapies. 

AI tools can predict disease outbreaks, how diseases will progress, and the likelihood of hospital (re)admissions. This predictive capability allows healthcare systems to prepare for future demands and allocate resources more effectively.  

AI can streamline hospital operations, from patient scheduling to the supply chain management. This efficiency can lead to better patient care, lower costs, and reduced workloads for healthcare professionals.  

Lastly, voice to text technology tools such as Nuance Dragon Ambient eXperience (DAX) enables clinicians to verbally dictate notes directly into electronic health records during patient visits. This capability significantly cuts down on the time traditionally spent on documentation, allowing healthcare providers to dedicate more time to patient care. 

FAIR HEALTH has hosted several events including a workshop on January 8, 2024 focused on the critical issue of algorithmic bias and clinical decision making. Developers, end-users, and students across Duke gained insights and practical strategies to identify, mitigate, and evaluate bias in clinical algorithms. The session also explored legal and ethical implications of algorithmic bias in healthcare, an aspect that is gaining increasing importance in today’s dynamic healthcare landscape.  

In addition, FAIR HEALTH held a research symposium on March 13-14, 2024. Over two days, experts across Duke and from around the country converged to explore AI's pivotal role in addressing healthcare disparities and our responsibility for advancing health equity and promoting responsible AI. In addition to keynote presentations and panel discussions, attendees engaged in thought-provoking conversations during a series of breakout sessions.  

“By engaging in this symposium, and learning from each other, we have collaboratively established research setting agenda focused on developing healthcare algorithms that prioritize equity, minimize bias, and improve patient care,” said Dr. Cary.  

 “The work of FAIR HEALTH is inspired by and aligns seamlessly with Duke School of Nursing’s commitment to transformative excellence in nursing education, practice, and science that promotes equitable health outcomes for all” said Dr. Cary.“ The initiative's focus on education and empowerment of healthcare professionals with AI skills dedicated to advancing health equity reinforces DUSON's goal of preparing leaders who are not only clinically proficient but also adept at using technology to address the complex challenges of health disparities.”   

 “Our hope is that a Duke School of Nursing education will give our students the head start they need to bring responsible and practical AI into their future clinical work, education, hospital leadership and research,” concluded Interim Vice Dean Setliff.

Summer Institute – August 2024: Join Dr. Cary and a team of distinguished academic leaders for two-day exploration into AI’s impact on healthcare, specifically through the lens of interprofessional education. This summer institute aims to empower health professions educators with the insights and capabilities necessary to leverage AI for transformative change in healthcare practices and outcomes. 

Fall Institute – October 2024: This two-day event in autumn is led by Dr. Cary and distinguished nursing faculty members, is specifically designed for the nursing community. It will emphasize the application of AI in a wide range of nursing areas, including education and clinical research. The fall institute is designed to provide nurses with a comprehensive understanding and the practical skills necessary for implementing AI technologies in their diverse work settings.

M. Cathleen Kaveny, JD, PhD, to Present 17th Annual Commonweal Lecture, April 9

Cathleen Kaveny, JD, PhD

Co-hosted by the Center for Catholic Studies and the Zeta chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at Fairfield University, Dr. Kaveny of Boston College will present a lecture titled “Nostalgia, Nationalism, and American Public Life.”

Dr. Kaveny will explore these connections between a certain nostalgia for the past and concerns about present-day public life in the U.S. when she presents “Nostalgia, Nationalism, and American Public Life,” the 17 th Annual Commonweal Lecture, on Tuesday, April 9 at 7 p.m. in Fairfield University’s Dolan School of Business Event Hall. This event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Kaveny's work focuses on the intersections of law, religion, and ethics in a divided, pluralistic society. She has published more than 100 articles and essays, and her books include  Law's Virtues: Fostering Autonomy and Solidarity in American Society  (2012);  Prophecy without Contempt: Religious Discourse in the Public Square  (2016), and  Ethics at the Edges of Law: Christian Moralists and American Legal Thought  (2018).

In 2018-19, Dr. Kaveny served as the Cary and Ann Maguire Chair in Ethics and American History at the Kluge Center at the Library of Congress. She is currently the Phi Beta Kappa 2023-24 Carl F. Cranor Visiting Scholar, and the Darald and Juliet Libby Millenium Professor at Boston College, where she has dual appointments in the Law School and the Theology Department.

Dr. Kaveny received her BA from Princeton University, and her MA, M.Phil, JD, and PhD from Yale.

A popular speaker on Catholicism and public issues, her frequent essays in Commonweal magazine bring careful analysis to bear on charged topics such as the relationships between law, religion, and morality in pluralistic societies.

VUMC performs its first combined lung and liver transplant

Following an extensive national search, Karen Keady, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive with the University of Rochester Medical Center, has been named System Chief Nursing Officer for Vanderbilt University Medical Center

Following an extensive national search, Karen Keady, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive with the University of Rochester Medical Center, has been named System Chief Nursing Officer for Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). Keady will join VUMC on July 1.  

Keady succeeds VUMC’s Executive Chief Nursing Officer, Marilyn Dubree, MSN, RN, who is retiring from her responsibilities as Executive Chief Nursing Officer but will remain with VUMC in a part-time role.

Keady will report to C. Wright Pinson, MBA, MD, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Health System Officer, and will be responsible for overseeing all nursing operations for the Vanderbilt Health system.

 “I am delighted to welcome Dr. Keady to VUMC to serve in this critical role. Karen joins us with an outstanding reputation of advocacy for the nurses she served at the University of Rochester,” said Pinson. “The contributions of our incredible, caring nurses are beyond measure. It was vital to select the right individual to succeed Marilyn. I want to express my gratitude to the members of the search committee for their wisdom and outstanding work to identify Dr. Keady.”

Jenny Slayton, MSN, RN, Senior Vice President for Quality, Safety and Risk Prevention, led the search committee who identified Keady from a number of distinguished candidates.

“Karen is an energetic, passionate leader committed to nursing and the continued advancement of Vanderbilt Health.  She has exceptional experience in leading nursing in the academic and community setting.  She uses innovative approaches to nursing and partnering with physicians and care teams across the patient continuum and in the community,” said Slayton.

Other members of the search committee include Megan Cockrum, RN, Jon Howell, RN, LaSheryl Brown, BSN, RN, Marilyn Smith, DNP, MSN. RN, Deonna Taylor, PhD, MSN, Laura Beth Brown, MSN, RN, Ronald Alvarez, MD, MBA, Donald Brady, MD, Cecelia Theobald, MD, MPH, Pamela Jeffries, PhD, RN, and Margaret Rush, MD, MMHC.

Keady is joining VUMC after six years as the University of Rochester Medical Center’s (URMC) nursing leader. At URMC, Keady led initiatives to redesign nursing care delivery models and wellness and resiliency programs. She also implemented creative incentive plans, as well as new nursing education and professional development opportunities. URMC’s Strong Memorial Hospital was just awarded its fifth consecutive Magnet designation. 

“The search committee reviewed a variety of strong candidates for the position of System Chief Nursing Officer. Dr. Keady stood out as a leader with experience and knowledge that will help VUMC grow as it addresses the opportunities and challenges of today’s health care environment,” said Pamela R. Jeffries, PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF, FSSH, Dean of Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, who served on the search committee. “Her experience in the academic medical setting, collaborative style and support for nurses make her a great partner for the School of Nursing. I look forward to working with her on a variety of initiatives.”

Keady spent the majority of her career at Johns Hopkins University where she steadily advanced through the health system from her first role as a clinical nurse in the Neuroscience Critical Care Unit.  After a series of successive promotions Keady was serving as Vice President of Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer for Johns Hopkins’ Howard County General Hospital before joining URMC.

Keady earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Towson State College of Nursing and later earned a Master of Science in Nursing and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing.
