Hallyu or the Korean wave has reverberated around the globe since the turn of the millennium in 2000, yet the emergence of Korean pop (K-pop) has been around even before that, ever since 1992. With such attention upon the K-pop idols, the impact they have – whether good or otherwise – upon youths is inevitable. Most researchers tend to study these effects based on economic instruments and psychological factors, thus this research would shed a different light on this issue using philosophy as the social apparatus. Methodology implemented was via questionnaires containing eight items related to K-pop disseminated to 100 undergraduates at National University of Malaysia (UKM). The findings from the eight items would be covered under the four sub disciplines – axiology (3), epistemology (1), logic (1) and metaphysics (3) and elucidated with these themes respectively: social identity, aesthetics, ethics, theory of knowledge (TOK), logical fallacy, determinism, nihilism and possibility-necessity. This study is significant because it gives insight on this social phenomenon with rather abstract yet fundamental concepts in philosophy that lay the foundation for K-pop becoming what it is now, the perception of ongoing idol-fandom interaction, and how the industry will propel in the future.

We gathered concepts regarding pop culture (how pop music is accepted and talked from the people) and fandom theory (how fandom was utilized and enacted throughout people) to further analyze and to complete this research. The respondents were the 3 rd and fourth year classes of Lorma Colleges Special Science High School (LCSSHS) students excluding our class. This undergraduate dissertation attempts to uncover the influence yielded by Korean popular music (K-pop) on Indian media culture, by means of its representation in Indian news outlets and the attitudes and opinions of Indian listeners. It is perhaps the first research work of its kind that attempts to tie journalism, K-pop fan culture, and music appreciation in India. By means of content analysis of news reportage about K-pop in leading publications such as The Times of India, The Hindu, and Hindustan Times, as well as survey questionnaires disseminated to Indian listeners of Korean music, the author of this dissertation shall attempt to prove their hypothesis that there is a significant upward trend in the acceptability of Korean music in India, despite the barriers of language, xenophobia and accessibility.

K-pop music has been one of the most influential contemporary musical genres nowadays. Hence, curiosities on its educational benefits aroused the interest of this paper. This experimental study aimed to determine if K-pop music has a significant effect on the concentration level among college students. 32 participants consisted of 16 males and 16 females were randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. A reading comprehension test with a good internal reliability (Cronbach's alpha of 0.88) was utilized to measure the concentration level of the students. K-pop music was selected based on the recently awarded songs. Independent Sample T-test were used to analyse the data. The results suggested rejection of the null hypothesis while highlighting the possible academic or educational benefits of Kpop music. Hence, the data showed that K-pop music positively affected the concentration level of the college students. This indicated that listening to music while taking a test can boost the college's students reading comprehension. Further, there seems to be no significant difference in terms of the participant's socio-demographic characteristics in terms of their concentration level as affected by K-pop music.

The original contribution of this paper is to identify a list of success factors of K-pop music and to validate the reliability of the factors identified. A quantitative survey was tested on K-pop music fans to find how these factors affect the fans' general satisfaction. An online survey form was generated and posted on the social media. Fans were asked to rate sixteen statements in terms of how likely each statement describes the reasons they like K-pop music. At the end of the survey, fans were also asked to rate their general satisfaction of K-pop music. A total of 207 samples were collected, and data taken from the respondents were processed with factor analysis, reliability test, descriptive statistic test, and multiple regression tests to obtain results. All the sixteen statements were found to be highly reliable. The results also showed that three scales are important elements in increasing fans' general satisfaction, with Korean culture as the most important scale, followed by the talent, and performance scales. However, the idol aesthetic scale was found to be statistically insignificant in this study. Implications of K-pop music's crossover with other music genres are discussed in this paper.

Music has become a part of everyone's lives, and as the years pass, it starts to adapt, develop, and evolve because of changing times. Eventually, it developed into a variety of genres, and Korean Pop Music (Kpop) was one of the genres that had emerged and became known throughout the world. Kpop music was performed by Korean idols trained in dancing, singing, speaking different foreign languages, etc., by their agencies where they have signed a contract. With the growing popularity of Kpop, it cannot be denied that it seemingly made its way to digital media, and with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic – the utilization of digital media was crucial in promoting and catering to Kpop. This research sought to determine how the Kpop industry influenced local advertisements in digital media. In this study, the researchers distributed online survey questionnaires to selected young adults in Metro Manila, ranging from 15 to 30 years old. Also, this research sought to look at the factors of K...

Other groups I stan: Blackpink , Aespa

5-6 hrs I guess

I loved their MVs and then checked out their discography. But become a real fan after watching their performances online.

I was extremely close minded and depressed before stanning my ult group. So I think that changed for the good. I'm more open to new ideas and don't seem that unhappy like before.

I also think I've become more extroverted after getting into kpop. I don't get nervous when I approach someone new anymore. But idk whether I'm like this because of interacting in the kpop community or being influenced by my fave's on screen personality.

I waste way too much time on stanning my faves and can't concentrate on real life things that matter to me the most. It's like I always have them on my mind which is extremely unhealthy.

Thank you so much for this! The detail is really helpful!

I have a timer set for 2 hours on AKP so I don’t spend more time than that. I usually only listen to kpop during commute so around one hour a day.

Concert/Live performances and stages. EXO’s concerts are very grand. The dancing the set the energy I could not find something similar in western music.

I’ve made a lot of new friends.

Not particularly.

BTS ; EXO ; Stray Kids .

I don't know, but a lot... especially in the pandemic (since in my country the situation is very serious rn) when I don't have anything else to do apart from working and consuming K-pop.

EXO: 5 years

BTS: 5 years

Stray Kids: 10 months

Music, talent, personalities, trajectory.

It's one of the few sources of happiness I have recently when most of the time I feel numb.

Well if forums count 4+ hours, otherwise 1-2?

Firstly their discography but when I learned more about the members themselves and their personalities I fell in love with the group.

I've made so many good friends who are also shawols. Before discovering kpop I was also extremely depressed but now variety shows and new album releases give me something to look forward to

Sometimes it hurts a lot mentally but still, I'm glad I discovered it

What group/artist is your current 'ultimate' group/artist ?

It's SHINee and TXT if we're talking about ultimate. ( EXO , BTS and TVXQ as well but I'm not following them much lately. I'm more into Stray Kids and Ateez these days)

Most of my time is spent on forums and YouTube. Forums is about lots of groups not just my fav so if I l'm answering about just my fav groups then like 6/7 hours a day.

SHINee for 9 years now and started stanning TXT since few months ago.

Minho 's looks, randomly watched their performance on TV one day and ended up falling for him bcoz he was so pretty. Searched about him and ended up being their fan.

For TXT, it was two covers of SHINee's that they did, Replay and Sherlock (esp Sherlock). And I ended up liking Yeonjun in Run Away too much that I decided to give them a try.

SHINee means to me like a family. I've spent years watching their content and listening to their music. They were one of the biggest source of my happiness and still are.

It's too soon for me to say fluffy things about TXT, they're cute and they make me smile. That's all I'll say.

I never cried in any of my close relatives' death before but I was devastated and cried like a mad woman when Jonghyun passed away so yes, it's bittersweet with SHINee.

I go on and off...i guess 3 hours..

I liked their music as well as personalities

They have made me smile on my worst days.

Yep. They have distracted me from real life a few times.

can range anywhere between 20 minutes to 6 hours depending on the day and circumstances

almost 3 years

Music first. I wasn't really into kpop at that time yet I found Stray Kids' songs relatable and fun, and to have a special spark. This compelled me to check out content that showcased their personalities and talents, which sealed my fate haha. With Stray Kids, I know I am not the only one who has felt from the first moment that they're bringing something new to the table and on a road to something huge.

Well, it's fun. Great music, performances, a lot of talent and entertaining and comforting personalities. Being a stay lifts my mood often — at times when I feel down or stressed I can find comfort in their music and content. The hard work of the members also inspires me to do more. Other than emotional benefits, I've also got to engage with and think about various interesting topics, such as themes in Stray Kids' work, fandom behaviour, and many other things related to the kpop industry.

I also got another topic to talk about with my friend who introduced me to skz in the first place.

Sort of. There were a few instances when kpop stressed me out way more than it should have, I suppose.

It didn't damage me per se but certainly didn't help my tendency to engage in every fight I see, even those that are, objectively, insulting to my intelligence. It's also an outlet for procrastination. I'd say that to an extent, a lot of the "damage" caused by being a kpop fan is actually my own negative traits manifesting in my current hobby. (I was argumentative and terrible at time management even before becoming a stay.)

sure, why not

Thank you so much for this answer!

(Will definitely be focusing on the details in your response since it aligns with a lot of my key points regarding the topic of study!)

Mmmh only her and not including other Kpop artists... maybe 30 mins on average.

5 years and counting!

She was my favourite contestant on Produce101 and it just continued from there. Originally it was her talent, dance, visuals, stage presence and general aura that attracted me to her. When she debuted solo I was so afraid I was gonna dislike her music but I love it and she’s the artist I listen the most to out of everyone! Her charisma, fun stages and amazing music is everything!

Not sure it has haha. It gives me entertainment, music and can cheer me up.

( I also like rv, blackpink , twice and Nct but I don’t follow them as closely)

On the forums it’s a bit different, I’d say I go on periodically

I think listening to music its about 4 or 6hours maybe. Sometimes I’ll take a break from listening to pop music and listen to a different genre depending on the day.

Watching videos and stuff usually maybe an hour or so

It was their music. It was the song Overdose and I bought the mini album on iTunes and everything lol. I tried getting into kpop before but they really brought me into it and eventually I actually started looking at a lot of other groups like bts and got7 . They were like my top 3, but I kinda stopped listening to the other two. I kinda only pay attention mostly to Exo now. I’ve always loved the music they put out ever since I discovered them. Also, I really love their lives.

I’ve been able to meet really amazing people because of it which is nice

I don’t know, I mean there some parts of being a fan that can be intense, but I don’t think it’s damaged me in any manner. I tend to avoid anything that has to do with conflict or fan wars or any of that. I hate getting involved in it, sometimes it’s tempting tho, but I’m not a fan of it lol

Quote from kidsgonestray K-POP FAN QUESTIONNAIRE As a part of my current school project regarding Parasocial Relationships (In K-POP) , I've decided that I want to include a questionnaire to further develop and personalize my presentation! I would be extremely grateful if you could complete this questionnaire as it would help me tremendously. QUESTIONNAIRE FORM: What group/artist is your current 'ultimate' group/artist? I have none How many hours a day do you spend consuming K-POP content from your current 'ultimate' group/artist? (examples include time spent on the forums, time spent listening to music, watching videos, reading articles, voting etc.) I would say three hours a day, mostly just watching content & listening to music. I also read articles & content from fans. How long have you 'stanned' your current 'ultimate' group/artist? As I stated before, I don't have a favorite group/artist. But to answer your question, I began to listen/got into different artists at different times. I did though get into k-pop in 2018, so I would say two years. What compelled you to your current 'ultimate' group? (examples include, their music, their concepts, their group dynamic, personal motivation, etc; long answers are welcomed!) I personally got into k-pop because of how different & unique it was from the music that I grew up with. Also, I must add that I connect with music on a personal level, so that definitely plays a big part when it comes to the artists that I listen to. Here are some of my favorite pieces of work (music) from some of the artists that I listen to Magic Shop , 비올레타 Violeta , Always You (너잖아 (Always You)) , [Audio] Pentagon (펜타곤) - SHA LA LA (신토불이) , Bloom Bloom , and Magnolia (매그놀리아) How has being a fan of your current 'ultimate' artist/group benefitted you? It definitely allowed me to open my eyes to the industry of k-pop, as well as the culture that they live in. Do you feel that being a fan has damaged you in any manner? I don't want to lie and say that there were no negative effects that came with being a fan, as there were. But what really matters to me, is how I can reflect & learn from my past or even present behavior. END OF QUESTIONNAIRE Are you comfortable with your username being public? 2 years? End of May, 2019.

Them as people, their music and the fans. There's twenty three of them and they're talented, funny and relatable - the younger members are close to my age too. Then there's the music, which is excellent and there's a lot of. And lastly, there's the fans. We're a chaotic bunch, but we get each other.

I'd say that it has helped me better myself. They inspire me to work harder. I look at their effort and think "I should be doing that too", I look at where they are in life and think "I can get there too", I look at the kind way they treat others and think "I want to be like that too". Though I wouldn't call them 'role models', I can look up to them in more way than one and reflect on myself.

I also feel more content. Though most of their music isn't that 'deep', I can listen to it when I'm tired, when I'm sad, when I'm feeling nothing and it makes me happier. The way they go on VLive and share their own thoughts and struggles has also helped me cope with mine.

Not really. Perhaps in the past it's made me procrastinate? But I'd say that it was an outlet for procrastination rather than a cause of it.

My ultimate bias group is Seventeen .

Approximately 1-2 hours.

Their personalities made me stan them. I really like their humour and teamwork as well. Their GoSe episodes let me as an audience and fan let me have a better connection with them, plus they are so transparent in the episodes, it is very refreshing to see.

I feel like I have something to look forward too, they simply just make me happy.

Yes, not physically or mentally, but academically. My grades have been effected.

I try to focus on them more then they're active, when not I tend to focus on other groups. I listen more to J-Pop but K-Pop is also part of my life.

11 years for KARA, 7 for EXO

Their music + my biases ( Gyuri and Sehun )

I made great awesome funky amazing friends because of them and their music helps me relax my mind and be happy.

No because I don't take stanning that far. Being in a space with fandom toxicity sometimes is a boomer but I try don't take those things to my heart.

aespa , superm and nct 127

i guess 2 hours on weekdays and 4 or 5 on weekends

almost 3 years for 127, and the others since debut so like a year and 6 months

their music and visual style

it just entertained me i guess

no i am a looser regarldess

BTS 5 years

TXT 4-5 month

BTS: First the BTS universe storyline. I love good stories and it got me interested. I listened they music and I find out how awesome they were.

TXT: The music. I revisited them 4 month ago as I was curious how they music changed since they debuted and fell in love.

I dont know if there is any benefit. They make a music I like so I guess I benefitted as in finding good music.

Only before comeback period. The anxiety of waiting for any little news. 😂

It really depends on whether I’m working or not. Maybe 1-2 hours if I am. If I’m at home, I have music on all the time, so it could count as hours and hours! 😃

I’d never heard/seen music that was presented in such an immersive fashion. It wasn’t just music, it was the choreography, the visual stimulation, the storylines connecting everything. Plus, I was not used to all the extra content, like the Run BTS episodes or V live that made a larger part of who they are as people accessible. The dynamic between all the members is unique and touching and just *fun*. I felt like I’d been missing a lot of joy in my life for a long time. The shortest and easiest answer is that they just flooded my little world with joy.

I’d been chronically ill for such a long time. I was missing joy and, more than that, human connection with people outside of my husband and immediate family. I felt locked in. Aside from just the pleasure of good music, it made me remember how important performing was to me personally, and git me back into that. Also, I started to want to see more, experience more, not be so shut in. I credit that changing attitude with me actually getting a job that wasn’t just me on my own at home, avoiding the world. I feel like I’m less scared now and know that I need to push myself more, even when things are hard - just like they do.

I really don’t. If you can avoid toxicity and petty fights, then sharing fandom can be one of the most pleasurable things.

Up to 4 hours

I've never been a big fan of music, so their music is not the one that makes me like them. I'm more of a movie buff, I like the prettiness of the actress, the acts/contents they deliver, and the chemistry between the stars

Their contents is one of the things that make me happy

My expectation on woman gets higher
