Microsoft has revealed that AI is coming to PowerPoint.

• The AI can even use other documents for inspiration and topic focus.

Microsoft has announced that it's bringing AI to PowerPoint via a new "Copilot" feature that will let users use natural language to ask PowerPoint to create entire presentations based on a particular topic, and even the ability to refer to other documents for information and inspiration.

The Copilot also understands commands such as "add animations to this slide," and using descriptive language, can even apply different styles per slide or across the entire presentation. The ability to talk to PowerPoint like a person and ask it to create things based on ideas you have in your head is going to be game changing for users.

Here's how Microsoft details Copilot for PowerPoint:

"Copilot in PowerPoint helps you turn your ideas into stunning presentations. As your storytelling partner, Copilot can transform existing written documents into decks complete with speaker notes and sources or start a new presentation from a simple prompt or outline. Condense lengthy presentations at the click of a button and use natural language commands to adjust layouts, reformat text, and perfectly time animations."

Microsoft has been on an AI rampage over the last month, and it started with adding a new AI Copilot to the Bing search engine . Since then, Bing has surpassed 100 million users , with one third of those users using AI on a daily basis to conduct internet searches and creative tasks.

Microsoft isn't just stopping with Bing, as it's now announced new AI capabilites in Word, Excel, and Outlook in addition to PowerPoint. Copilot functions similarly in all Office apps, being capable of generate content specified by the user, with context from other sources where necessary. Microsoft says AI in PowerPoint will roll out over the coming months, and is in very limited testing with some enterprise customers now.

The best AI tools for making PowerPoint presentations

While some people out there are wizards at presentations, or even have fun making them, the rest of us usually want to get the task over with as quickly as possible, while still making a solid impression. This is a case for generative AI, if there ever was one. With that in mind, here are some of the best AI tools for creating PowerPoint presentations.

The best AI tools for making PowerPoint (PPT) presentations

If you’re part of a business that keeps up-to-date with Microsoft Office, you’ll probably only need the first tool on our list, and it’s built right into PowerPoint. There are other options out there, however, some of which eliminate the need to do much (if anything) in PowerPoint itself. They also have their own strengths and weaknesses, so you’ll have to decide what best fits your needs.

Copilot in PowerPoint

Presentations.ai, beautiful.ai, wepik ai presentation maker.

Microsoft is the AI industry’s reigning behemoth, and it’s working to put the tech into as many of its products as possible. If you’re lucky enough to be an enterprise subscriber of Microsoft 365 , with a subscription to either the Standard or Premium plans, you can pay extra for the company’s Copilot assistant in PowerPoint add-on. Give Copilot a topic, and it’ll whip up a draft presentation by itself, which can save time even if you have to edit it to get the details right.

Thankfully, the tool can help with those aspects, too. It’ll summarize long notes, and you can ask it to restructure your slides. If there’s a particular branding your organization demands, Copilot will generate matching images and slides. You can use commands as generic as “add a relevant image to this slide” when you’re stumped for ideas.

As we mentioned a moment ago, the main catch here is limited access. While many businesses pay for Microsoft 365, many don’t, and then there’s the fact that you have to pay an extra $30 for the Copilot add-on. It’s also going to be a while before Copilot rolls out to all Microsoft 365 customers. We wouldn’t count on it ever becoming available for standalone PowerPoint users, given the cloud processing needed for advanced AI.

Presentation.AI bills itself as the “ChatGPT for presentations,” and that seems pretty apt — in many respects, it’s Copilot for people who aren’t Microsoft 365 enterprise subscribers. To spin up a presentation deck, you enter a prompt, pick a template, then answer a few other questions. If you need to, you can use a brand kit to stamp a presentation with a corporate identity.

From there, you can insert your own content, or have the AI make changes through prompts like “change background” or “add a teams page.” Speaking of teams, collaboration functions make it possible to discuss a project, assign slides and tasks to coworkers, and add reactions or comments.

While Presentations.AI is in beta you can subscribe to its Starter tier for free, but that gets you a limited number of AI credits for prompts, and only the most basic set of features. You’ll need to upgrade to a paid Pro or Enterprise subscription for more credits, custom fonts and colors, and a full set of features, such as exporting to PDF.

You can try Presentations.AI for free, but the paid plans start at $120 yearly.

While it does build whole presentations, Beautiful.ai is primarily focused on slide design. You start with “smart” templates, and as you add notes, data, and other content, each slide adjusts automatically. You can specify fonts, logos, and color schemes, and your subscription gives you access to stock photos, icons, and videos. AI mostly comes into play with the DesignerBot, which can generate first drafts as well as original images if the stock library isn’t enough.

The suite’s editing functions are relatively simple, which is actually part of the attraction. They’re easy to understand, and data points can be adjusted with sliders. There are automatic animations, and like Presentations.AI, a set of collaboration options.

The company offers Pro, Team, and Enterprise subscriptions after a 14-day trial. You’re strongly pressured towards paying annually. Pro access, for instance, costs $144 annually, but there is no monthly option. If you want the Team plan, it costs $40 per user, monthly, if you commit to a whole year. Otherwise, the price is $50 monthly, per user.

Venngage is generally built around infographics, though it has plenty of presentation templates. Once you’ve picked a template, that’s when you get around to inserting photos, charts, and icons, including a library of stock images. You can use a brand kit if necessary, and collaborate with others in your organization.

The use of AI is relatively minor, so this isn’t the tool to choose if you want something that does most of the work. An example is its smart diagram creator, which mostly just auto-sizes shapes as you add or remove text.

Still, it’s potentially easier to use than PowerPoint, and you’re not limited to presentations. You can create five designs for free. After that, you’ll have to step up to a Premium, Business, or Enterprise plan, which unlocks quantity and quality options, and, of course branding and collaboration if you’re a Business or Enterprise customer. Paid plans start at $19 a month, and you can get discounts for paying yearly.

Wepik is entirely free, so this is the place to start if you’re only making presentations for casual use, or you want something to test before committing valuable dollars to AI. As with something like Copilot or Presentations.AI, you start with a prompt to create a first draft, then edit aspects like text, colors, and imagery. You can generate AI images or upload your own, and yes, there is a brand kit function. Photo editing is available if you need it.

As you’re probably expecting, a free product is going to be more limited. There are only five included styles — doodle, simple, abstract, geometric, and elegant — and there’s no easy way to export anything to PowerPoint. Instead, presentations are delivered as links or PDF files, so Wepik is more of a PowerPoint replacement than anything.

How generating PowerPoint with SlideSpeak works

Here is an overview of how SlideSpeak can turn your Word content into a PowerPoint presentation:

• Upload Document: Upload your Word doc to SlideSpeak.
• Review Document: See the document in the SlideSpeak interface. In chat, you can ask the AI questions about the content.
• Generate Presentation: Click the “Generate presentation” button to start creating the PowerPoint.
• AI Generates Slides: SlideSpeak’s AI will analyze the document and design slides based on the content. This may take a few minutes.

Let’s go through this process step-by-step to see just how easy it is to create a PowerPoint presentation with SlideSpeak’s AI.

A dialog will pop up to confirm you want to start generating the PowerPoint. Click “Proceed”!

Step 4: AI Generates Slides

Now SlideSpeak’s AI technology will get to work analyzing your document and automatically designing professional PowerPoint slides. This may take a few minutes depending on the length of your document.

You’ll see a progress bar that keeps you updated on the status. Sit back and let the AI do the heavy lifting!

Step 5: Preview and Download

In just a few minutes, your new PowerPoint presentation will be ready! SlideSpeak will show you a preview of the slides the AI has designed.

You can flip through them to see how the AI extracted key points from your document and created stunning slides. If you’d like to make any tweaks, you can edit the slides here.

When you’re satisfied, click the download button to save the PowerPoint file to your computer.

What file formats can you generate a presentation from?

Currently, SlideSpeak supports generating PowerPoint presentations from Word documents (DOCX files) and PDF files. Simply upload one of these file types to have our AI technology design slides based on the content. Do you also support generating presentations for Google Slides?

Not directly, but you can easily transfer a generated PowerPoint file to Google Slides. First, generate the presentation in SlideSpeak and download the PowerPoint file. Then head over to Google Slides and go to File > Import, selecting the PowerPoint file to bring it into Slides. See this help article for step-by-step instructions.

Are there any other designs for the generated presentations?

Right now our AI uses one professional design template to generate the slides. We plan to add support for more slide templates and customization options in the future, but for now it’s a clean, modern template.

Can you directly generate PowerPoint presentations with ChatGPT?

No, ChatGPT is a conversational AI that only handles text interactions. It does not support uploading files or generating slide decks directly. SlideSpeak uses more advanced AI technology tailored for powerpoint generation from documents.

How long does it take to generate a presentation?

The time it takes to generate a PowerPoint presentation depends on the length of your uploaded Word/PDF document. For a 10-15 page document, expect it to take around 5 minutes. Longer documents with 50+ pages could take 10-15 minutes to generate slides. You’ll see a progress bar after clicking the generate button so you know the status.

What elements from my document will be converted into slides?

Our AI will analyze headings, text paragraphs, images, tables, and lists in your document. It identifies key points, summaries, and data to structure into individual slides with appropriate text, bullet points and visuals. The goal is to capture all the important information and structure it effectively for a presentation.

Adobe and Microsoft partner to connect Adobe Experience Cloud workflows and insights with Microsoft Copilot to deliver generative-AI powered capabilities that enable marketers to increase collaboration, efficiency and creativity.

SAN JOSE, Calif. and REDMOND, Wash. – Mar. 26, 2024 – Today at Adobe Summit – the world’s largest digital experience conference – Adobe (Nasdaq:ADBE) and Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT) announced plans to bring Adobe Experience Cloud workflows and insights to Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 to help marketers overcome application and data silos and more efficiently manage everyday workflows. These new integrated capabilities will bring relevant marketing insights and workflows from Adobe Experience Cloud applications and Microsoft Dynamics 365 to Microsoft Copilot, assisting marketers as they work in tools such as Outlook, Microsoft Teams and Word to develop creative briefs, create content, manage content approvals, deliver experiences and more.

“The demand for personalized content across social media, mobile and other fast-moving channels has been exploding, pushing marketers to drive greater efficiency and productivity in their everyday work,” said Amit Ahuja, senior vice president, Digital Experience Business at Adobe. “Marketers spend a great deal of their day working across Adobe and Microsoft applications, and the partnership provides a unique offering for marketing teams, streamlining daily tasks across planning, collaboration, create and campaign execution.”

“Microsoft and Adobe share a common goal of empowering marketers to focus on the work that’s most important – creating impactful campaigns and enhancing customer experiences,” said Jared Spataro, corporate vice president, AI at Work, Microsoft. “By integrating contextual marketing insights from Adobe Experience Cloud applications and Dynamics 365 within the flow of work through Copilot for Microsoft 365, we deliver on our shared goal while helping marketers streamline their efforts, break down barriers, and deliver exceptional results.”

The marketing discipline is complex and made up of specialized roles which require specialized tools – from designing brand content and managing campaigns, to tracking audience insights across channels with internal and external partners and reporting out results. This means marketers face challenges of working in silos and in different applications, which can lead to misalignment and negatively impact speed and productivity. According to a recent survey conducted by Microsoft [1] , 43 percent of marketing and communications professionals reported that having to switch between digital applications and programs was disruptive to their creativity.

Together, Adobe and Microsoft will address these challenges. Initial capabilities will focus on addressing the needs of marketers who often work across multiple teams internally and externally while managing campaign goals, status and actions. The capabilities will address scenarios including:

• Strategic insights in the flow of work : Enriched with relevant campaign insights from Adobe Experience Cloud applications such as Adobe Customer Journey Analytics and Adobe Workfront, combined with Dynamics 365, the Copilot for Microsoft 365 experience helps marketers get quick insights and updates in Outlook, Teams and Word. Marketers can ask questions to get the status of a marketing project, understand the effectiveness of a campaign, outstanding approvals, and actions to take, or the audience and KPIs being defined in the latest campaign brief.
• Create campaign briefs, presentations, website updates and emails with relevant context : Marketers can be even more data-driven without having to go to multiple tools or people for insights. Marketing insights from Adobe and Dynamics 365 will be available in Copilot for Microsoft 365 to create briefs, presentations for exec reviews, or any kind of report or message. Marketers can also create imagery with Adobe Firefly generative AI or copy for marketing experiences through Adobe Experience Manager Sites; marketers can create content in Word that gets published directly to channels such as web and mobile.
• Keep projects moving with in-context notifications and summaries : Often marketers will need to go into multiple applications, emails and chats to compile a project status – from feedback and approvals to work item changes or due dates. These integrated capabilities informed by Adobe Workfront can work across these applications to create notifications informed by relevant marketing data to stay on top of any changes and actions to take.
