Every student learns differently (um even my sister and I have MAJORLY different studying approaches haha) so I included 3 different printables that you can choose from! 

I usually will start off with using the page on the far right in the image below and brain dump everything I have to get done. I will then take it to the Weekly Homework Tracker and write in which days I am doing everything.

Finally, I use the page on the far left below as a daily schedule and time-block when I do everything!

Homework Planner Template

The best thing I can say about this homework planner is that my own kids like it enough to want me to print a copy for them each week. The design for this planner came from a mash-up of the techniques that my brother and I used in college to organize our time. I've refined the design based on feedback from my kids (one high-schooler and two home-schoolers).

How It Works : This planner combines two very useful tools for keeping track of your homework assignments, both on a single page. First, on the left is a homework check list for each of your classes. Use it to list the assignments, due dates, and the estimated time to complete each assignment. List upcoming exams and plan times to study. Second, on the right side you can plan your week to figure out how you will get everything done.

Printable Homework Planners

The following PDF files can be printed as needed. The main difference is in the weekly schedule because high-schoolers and home-schoolers tend to do their homework at different times of the day.

Description

This spreadsheet includes two separate worksheets with slightly different designs. The Homeschool design doesn't include the "time" column because we found it wasn't as critical to predict how much time a particular assignment would take. However, for high school and college, estimating the time to complete each assignment can be extremely helpful.

We designed it so that you can either print blank copies of the planner, or edit it electronically. You may be able to store and edit this planner on your mobile device if you are using Excel for iPad/iPhone or Google Sheets.

Tips for Students:

1. Customize the template: Using Excel or Word, enter your class names on the left and your typical weekly schedule. For example, use the schedule to highlight the times for each of your classes, your extracurricular activities, part-time jobs, etc.

2. Print blank copies: After customizing the template, you can print as many of these planner pages as you need, and you won't need to enter your typical weekly schedule each time.

3. Don't forget incomplete assignments: When switching to a new page each week, don't forget to go through your list of assignments and transfer the incomplete assignments to the new page.

4. Don't lose it: Keep your planner page in a folder that you always have with you. If you are worried about misplacing it, try taking a picture of it with your phone as a backup.

5. Use a mobile app: If you have a phone with the Excel or Word app or Google Docs app, and you are allowed to use a mobile device in school, you could try going paperless and editing the template on your phone. You could also try using one of the many "student planner" or "homework planner" mobile apps. The problem with this approach is that phones can be a huge distraction. If you are obsessed with Instagram or texting, it may be better to avoid using your phone if you want to get anything done.

Note to Teachers:

You are welcome to print copies of this planner to give to your students. The worksheet is pretty intuitive, but don't assume that students will know how to use it. Teach them about managing their time and help them learn how a planner can help.

One important thing that you can do to help your students is to give them a realistic estimate of how much time each assignment will take. If you get a lot of students complaining that an assignment took longer than you said, either cut back the work (if it was excessive), or use the feedback to give a better estimate next time around.

Printable Homework Planners to Help Students Get Organized

If you’re a parent, you know how incredibly overwhelming it can be for students to stay on top of studying and all other homework assignments.

Especially when they’re juggling multiple classes.

Due dates can pile up quickly if they aren’t staying organized and managing their time wisely.

However, there is a tool that can be quite helpful – A printable homework planner! You’ll find a few different styles below.

Weekly homework planners

These free printables will help students plan and track all their assignments for each day of the week.

They can write down the class, a description of the homework assignment, and when it’s due. Once it’s completed it, check “done” and move on to the next!

I recommend printing a few copies at a time. Encourage your middle schooler or high schooler to keep one in their binder.

It’s nice to have a bird’s-eye view of each month.

Some students may prefer a simple running list of what’s due each month.

With these trackers, they can write down the class, jot down a quick description of what’s due (whether it’s a basic assignment, project, or exam), and the due date.

And, of course, once the assignment is finished, they can mark done.

Free Printable Homework Planner

Between schoolwork, online work, homework, products, submitting work, and more, you might feel like you don’t have enough time in the day to plan and complete it.  To keep track of these things and make them a little more manageable, we wanted to give you this free homework planning sheet.  It will help you and your child stay on top of their work.   

I think the hardest part of the homework is learning how to budget time.  This lesson is hard for students to learn (even adults still struggle in this area!).   It’s important to teach our kids to budget & organize their time.  Time management skills are one of the best things we can teach our children. To help our kids tackle the time-management portion of homework, I give them this Homework Planning Sheet  every week.

On top of that, making a “to-do” list helps kids see what has to be done and allows them to check things off once it’s finished.  This gives them a sense of accomplishment.   

This homework planner offers students the benefit of writing down all their tasks, reviewing what they must do, and budgeting their time to fit it all in.   

It gives them a chance to look at the upcoming week and write down everything that they have to do for the week.  They can see exactly what needs to be done and when they need to do it.    We write in things like practice or appointments on certain days, so they can see where they will have limited time.

This homework planner is an easy way to help our kids with time management and organization.

Why do children fall behind on classwork? 

• Procrastination.   Are they setting aside enough time to complete their work?   Are they doing it before other things each day (before relaxing, sports, etc.)
• Confusion.  Does your child understand the material and what they are asked to do for their homework?  Sometimes children ignore their homework because it is too confusing, and they are embarrassed to ask for help, admitting failure. 

Tips to Remember While Doing School Work at Home: 

• Have a system for completed work.   When our kids finish their work and it has been submitted, we keep it in case the teacher can’t find it later (emails get lost, and I didn’t want our kids to have to repeat the work).   We kept one bin per child. We would paperclip the work from the week together and a piece of paper with the date on it (paperclipped to the top of the pile).  We’d throw it into the bin.  Simple. 
• Use this time to teach your child time-management skills.  Work before play.   It’s a lesson best learned when your child is young. 
• Use our Homework Organization Tip (which has worked for us for several years.)

Free Printable: Homework Planner

Let’s teach our kids how to budget their time with planners. Have them list down the things that need to be accomplished and break down tasks into smaller and manageable units! For our free printables this week, I’ve created two sets of homework planners for our school kids!

Free Printable Planner Pages {PDF Fillable}

For several years now I’ve been making my own planners using a disc bound system and I’ve really come to love how much flexibility they provide. The ability to change things if needed as the year goes along has been a great help for somebody with planner commitment issues like me. And because I’ve found this type of system so very helpful, I’ve also made some free printable planner pages available every year to help other folks who enjoy the flexibility of making their own personal planners too.

The upcoming year 2022 will be the sixth year I’ve created some of these pages and this year I decided to try something a little different. This year the new pdf’s have editable fields that you can fill in. What does that mean? Well hopefully that means even more flexibility and perpetual options for making your own planners!

So this year, instead of the word 2022 being part of the pdf design, I’ve just left a fillable field where you can type in the month and year as needed. On the weekly layouts, the date squares are also fillable so you can type in the dates for any given week. The labels for the days of the week are also editable so you can choose if you want your week to start with Sunday, or Monday, or even Thursday if you wanted it that way!

The monthly layouts all have fillable date squares to create any month as needed too. And of course, you can leave any of these fields blank if you wish and just handwrite in the info after your pages are printed if that’s easier too.

Part of my motivation for creating this new type of editable planner page was simply to save myself some time. It was getting to be a rather large chore to create as many calendars, layouts, and sizes as I had been providing the last few years. But in saving myself a little time, I’m hopeful that I’ve created new and improved printable planner pdf’s that give you more customization to create planner inserts that aren’t limited to just a certain month or year.

How To Make Your Own Planner

Before I start listing all the links for the printable planner pdf’s, here’s a quick overview of some of the general info:

The supplies I like to use are: 

I use a Junior Size Disc Bound Notebook that has 8 discs I like to print my pages on the heavier 32 Lb paper I use my paper trimmer to neatly cut my pages in half so they fit the junior size notebook I then punch my pages using my portable size Arc punch

The two color options available for printing this year are:

Green & Pink Floral – A bright and cheery option with a decorative flower border. Gray & Teal – A simple and clean design that’s business and guy-friendly.

When printing the pdf’s be sure to select “Actual Size” or “100%” in your pdf program so that no extra white space is added around the edges. For the half size sheets, you will also have to select the “Landscape” orientation.  Click here for – – > How to print the fillable pages 2 sided

A new addition this year:

This year I’ve also added a new page layout I call my “Getting Things Done” page based on the strategies from one of my favorite books on productivity, David Allen’s Getting Things Done . This page is dedicated more to capturing thoughts and gives less space to scheduling. You can read more about the principles behind this design here: Using The “Getting Things Done” Principles in my DIY Planner . This page is abbreviated as “GTD” in the lists below.

The Free Editable Planner Pages

Here now are the links for the free printable planner pages. These include weekly options in both a vertical and horizontal layout, a monthly layout, the new Getting Things Done (GTD) page, as well as a cover page and a year-at-a-glance page. There are also some printable extra pages (such as a to-do list and daily planning) at the end of this post.

Fillable Half Size Printable Planner Pages

These are designed to be printed on 8.5×11 paper and then cut down the middle to create planner pages that are 5.5 x 8.5.  This year’s styles are designed to be punched at the inside edges (different than in previous years) as I thought that would be easier with the new fillable pdf designs.  This size fits in the junior size notebooks with 8 discs, which continues to be my favorite size.

I have just a couple designs for the very small 5 disc notebooks too, however these do not have fillable pdf fields because of their small size. These are set up to be cut into fours (down the middle lengthwise, and across the middle width-wise), and to be punched at the outside edges. The final page size is 4.25 x 5.5

Thank you for the free printables. I am also one of those who have planner commitment issues because I can’t seem to find something that works for me. I have a question for you…is there a way that I can make the printables print on both sides of the page so that I don’t waste so much paper?

I’m hoping to do a follow-up post with more info about printing two sided with this new fillable format. In the meantime, after doing some fiddling, I’ve found what works is to print your first page for any given week. Then put that page back in the printer (so you can print on the other side of it) and do a fillable page that has the 1st half of the week before, and the 2nd half of the week after the first page you printed. If you keep doing this, when you cut them apart and put them in your notebook, it flows along just as it should back-to-back!
