Solomon House plans fundraiser

Tournament time

The week between Christmas and New Years’ has traditionally been basketball tournament time in the Teche Area as three major tournaments take place during this period.

In St. Martinville, the annual Holiday Shootout brings some of the state’s top teams to face some of the Teche Area’s best and this year is no different as New Iberia Senior High, Westgate, Jeanerette and host St.

A fatal automobile crash took the life of a New Iberia man early Tuesday, according to Louisiana State Police Public Information Officer Brooks David.

The Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced Scott Ward, 38, dead at the scene of a single-vehicle crash at just before 9 a.m.

Mayor outlines progress on NIPD

New Iberia Mayor Freddie DeCourt laid out an overview at Tuesday night’s New Iberia City Council meeting of the work his administration and the City Council is doing to create a New iberia Police Department in the coming months.

Budget moves for NIPD on agenda for City Council

The New Iberia City Council will begin making some of the initial budgetary decisions providing for a New Iberia Police Department at today’s meeting.

Mayor Freddie DeCourt said he plans to hire a police chief and administrative staff fairly soon, with advertisements already going on for applications.
