Who will star in jackpot, who is the director of jackpot, who is the music director of jackpot, who is the cinematographer of jackpot, what is genre of jackpot.

The film opens in 1918 and follows a milkman who accidentally stumbles upon an inexhaustible vessel (Akshaya Patra) while digging for a well. He fills it with cows milk, however, when he continues digging the well, he is surprised that the vessel produced a lot of milk from a small amount. He uses the vessel to change his fortune and become rich, but not for long as it eventually gets stolen by two people. Many years later, the vessel is found by an old lady who sells idlis by a riverbank and she uses it to feed more people. She passes on the secret about the vessel and its power to Akshaya (Jyothika) and Masha (Revathi), who says she had buried the vessel due to fear that someone might steal it from her. She says that she has buried it in Maanasthan's (Anandaraj)) rice mill near a bull shed. Akshaya and Maasha get the help of Mottai (Rajendran) and Rahul Vijay (Yogi Babu). How they get their hands on the vessel while dealing with Maanasthan and Bhai (Mansoor Ali Khan) forms the crux of the story.

Jyotika's Jackpot Movie Review

Jackpot - A middling affair that could probably be enjoyed if you adapt to its craziness and wackiness! 

Jyotika's second innings has been quite impressive with a fair share of interesting films. Here we welcome her latest release, Jackpot, an out and out comedy entertainer directed by K alyaan and produced by Suriya's 2D Entertainment. Akshu (Jyotika) and Masha ( Revathy ) are con-women who are petty thieves robbing money for their livelihood. They happen to listen about a mysterious vessel, a treasure which would make their lives better. They plan to rob the vessel to settle down in life. Did they succeed in their mission and rob the treasure forms the premise of Jackpot.

Jyotika is lively on screen and we see a different shade of her in this film. She is full of energy and probably for the first time in her second innings, she has got to play a character that is excited and fun loving. She owns the film with her performance and her casual makeover makes the difference. Looks like she had great fun doing this one, that offers her to do a lot of interesting things, like dance, comedy, action, and more. However, a certain section of audience might feel if she has overdone it.

Revathy aces the character of Masha with her experience and she is a valuable asset to the film. She shares a good chemistry with Jyotika on screen. Anandaraj is easily the best one out of the lot in the comedians who creates a hilarious ambience in the theatre with his funny one-liners and body language. He is the star of the film. Redin Kingsley scores with the limited scope given to him and his counters are enjoyable. Yogi Babu is impressive to an extent.

Comedy is a very tough genre to handle, considering the fact that you need to keep throwing the humour throughout, to the audience. The makers of Jackpot have tried their level best to do that and it works out on a 50-50 basis. The situational comedies are put to good use and it is a noticeable aspect to be seen, unlike other comedy films which are heavily dependent on dialogues. The family audience would definitely have a hearty laugh as a whole package. Surprisingly, the film assures a minimum guarantee with some funny situational comedies at places. The pre-interval sequence uplifts the audience energy, making the atmosphere lively. Thanks to Anandaraj and his gang for that.

The film also has an interesting fantasy element that keeps the proceedings interesting. The establishment of the fantasy element is well shot and put together and it sets up a good base. Another good thing about the film is that it never preaches or tries to convey any social message in the end, unlike Jyotika’s previous films. Jackpot is a harmless comedy film and you might enjoy it if you get adapted to that space. If you don’t, then it might be a difficult watch. The wackiness in the screenplay might appeal differently and the reception depends on one’s taste and acceptance.

On the flipside, the film does suffer from uninteresting comedies that equally play spoilsport. Mansoor Ali Khan and Motta Rajendran don’t bring any freshness or add any colour to the film. The never ending body shaming comedies involving Yogi Babu’s face continues in this also. However, it was good to see the director giving a positive perspective to it in the end. His first meeting with Jyotika and Revathy was a very flat scene putting down the engagement factor. The song in the second half was totally unnecessary and the situation never demanded it. It just elongated the film even more. Neither Samuthirakani’s character nor his portions involving his daughter was needed, except for the connection that gets established in the end credits sequence. But that doesn’t make a big difference at all. The runtime could have been shortened, cutting down on a few boring scenes and the songs.

Director Kalyaan has travelled on the same genre as like his previous film, Gulaebaghavali, giving a similar treatment. The freshness in the comedies could have been better and more interestingly written scenes could have made the difference, thereby making Jackpot, a fun filled satisfying comedy entertainer. Vishal Chandrasekhar's background score suffixes the mood setting of the film, lending a good support to the mass action scenes. However, it does remind you of a very popular theme music from a big star’s film. The visuals look functional and there are no major concerns about the film's photography.

Critics Review

A tiring parade of predominantly juvenile jokes.

While it is good to see a heroine donning the mass avatar and have a ball, Jyothika doesn't really fit the bill here. For these films to work you will have to buy into the madness of the characters. Here it comes through as though someone is putting up a performance. The gags simply dont work. Sadly Revathy doesn't have much to do. The battalion of comedians do their part but there is a dearth of consistent laughter. The stretch leading to the intermission is one rare occasion that is genuinely funny. (more)

An unapologetically made fun film, this may appeal to those who love watching movies in this genre.

Though the story has nothing new to offer except the plot surrounding the vessel, the film manages to entertain, thanks to some of the comic scenes which are devoid of double-entendre. The background score, however, reminds us of music from a few other movies. The two songs do not add much value to the story but looks vibrant in screen. (more)

Jyotika aces her 'mass' avatar in this comedy

Jackpot is good fun. There is no logic. You will have to put up with a few preachy scenes in the middle (it seems to be the common thread that connects Suriya's and Jyotika's films of late), but the cleverly written, witty bits more than make up for it. At long last, Tamil cinema delivers a fun masala film in 2019. (more)

Jyotika, Revathy's film is an eccentric fun ride

Jyotika reinvents herself in Jackpot and she proves she's a lot more comfortable doing comedy than playing a character that's high on emotions and drama. She does go overboard on a few instances but it suits this character that you end up liking by the time you walk out of the cinema hall. It was equally refreshing to see Revathy, usually reserved to play mother roles, break free and play a role that sees her have so much fun. I don't remember the last time I saw women hogging all the limelight in a Tamil film and Jackpot � a harmless comic caper � gives Jyotika and Revathy more than just a platform to shine; it gives them the opportunity to make a strong mark in roles that are usually headlined by heroes. Jyothika and Revathy let loose in this formulaic, commercial buddy-comedy

The film has nothing new to offer and is packaged as a time pass entertainer made up of few scenes to provide laughs. Jyotika has been doing serious films so far, so it is refreshing to see her in such a massy film. Revathy is one of the finest actors in Tamil cinema, but she does not fit in the role of the heroine's side kick. Intent aside, Jackpot is downright silly and has many flaws. (more)

Excellent Jyothika and Revathi hit jackpot in fun entertainer

Jackpot also has its shares of problems: the disappointing songs by Vishal Chandrashekar, known for the Jil Jung Juk album. In addition to that, Jackpot looks disjointed at many places. Scenes cut from one tangent to the other on a whim. Though the director doesn't leave any loose ends and ties them all towards the end, there are too many threads hanging around for the audience to remember. (more)

This Jyotika film offers mindless entertainment

Jackpot doesn't take itself seriously. So, we also shouldn't. It offers mindless entertainment that neither cares about formula nor treatment. It is obvious Kalyaan wants to just entertain the audience and he puts all his effort into making Jyotika 'a mass hero' and builds drama even from subtle moments. To be honest, it was a relief to see Jyotika not going into her usual lecture mode, with moral science classes�despite having Samuthirakani in the film. (more)

Jackpot movie review: Jyothika and Revathy let loose in this formulaic, commercial buddy-comedy

Jyotika had made it clear that her latest film with Revathy, Jackpot, is a buddy-comedy about two women having fun in typical Tamil commercial cinema format.

Mainstream Kollywood films and the representation of female leads have largely been stereotypical. But more recently, there is a movement going on among the actresses to change this perception as most senior stars have had enough of being portrayed as a ‘ loosu ponnu ’ (naive romantic interest). Every actress worth her box-office ranking wants an image makeover. This brings us to Jyotika, who had made it clear that her latest film with Revathy, Jackpot, is a buddy-comedy about two women having fun in typical Tamil commercial cinema format.

In Raatchasi , which released last month, Jyotika played the dignified and strict headmistress Geetha Rani. Now in her new release Jackpot she plays a con woman. Jyothika is challenging the male-dominated industry by doing roles reserved for mass heroes and in the process trolls them as well; including her husband Suriya. When Jyotika appears in a scene in  Jackpot, in police uniform, she mouths Suriya’s famous Singam punchline – “ Ongi Adicha Ondra Ton Weight Da. ” Jyotika seems to be having a ball through the film, as if to say, “Why should boys have all the fun?”

S Kalyaan, who had earlier directed Prabhu Deva’s   Gulaebaghavali,  does not subscribe to logical movie-making. In his interviews the director had stated he does not care for logic as he just wants the audiences to clap and have a good time. Even the posters and the trailer of Jackpot, which went viral, are designed to give the feel of a mass hero film.

Still looking for a plot? Well, here’s what I could make of it. Jackpot  is a fantasy story about a 100–year old copper vessel and its mysterious powers. Two con women Akshaya (Jyotika) and Maasha (Revathy) cheat the rich and spend the money they make on the poor and needy. The two ladies want the vessel by hook or by crook. The trouble is that it is buried in a cowshed in a farmhouse of a gangster and politician Manasthan (Anandraj) and it is protected by a fierce bull. The ladies get help from a mechanic called Bhai (Motta Rajendran) who deals in stolen vehicles and has a one-sided affair going on with Maasha. Meanwhile, Ragul (Yogi Babu) comes to their aid as well.

The film has no basic story but like any commercial film, it has its mix of emotion, romance, songs and stunts. Both Jyothika and Revathy have been presented in a larger than life manner. There are two over–the-top stunt scenes which you can associate only with mass heroes, and two loud songs including the mandatory massy introduction song where Jyotika shakes a leg with hundreds of dancers in the background.

The film has nothing new to offer and is packaged as a time pass entertainer made up of few scenes to provide laughs. Jyotika has been doing serious films so far, so it is refreshing to see her in such a massy film. Revathy is one of the finest actors in Tamil cinema, but she does not fit in the role of the heroine’s side kick.

Intent aside, Jackpot is downright silly and has many flaws. At times you may squirm in your seats. But as Jyotika said in one of her promotional interviews – “It’s nothing more than a fun film and I’m looking forward to a big opening for it.” Full marks for clarity!

Actress Jyothika who began her second innings with the feel good drama 36 Vaayathinilae chose to do many intense message heavy films which resulted in big box office failures and so it seems like the actress has turned her attention to commercial projects. The comedy entertainer Jackpot just points out to that fact as it is an out and out commercial entertainer with higher quotient of commercial elements and lesser quotient of preachy messages. Director Kalyaan has once again done what he does best. If you had watched the director’s previous flick Gulaebaghavali you would know exactly what to expect of Jackpot. Veteran actress Revathi has carried on from where she left in Gulaebaghavali, if fact with the same character name Masha.

Jackpot is weaved around a wafer thin fantasy element called atchaya Pathiram which is a mythical 100 years old copper vessel that is capable of giving endlessly. 100 years back a man discovers the vessel nearby his hut where he habitats. Once in possession of such a vessel what does any human do, ask for anything you want. He does the same and once a layman has now turned in to a landlord who resides in an extravagant bungalow. Naturally his good fortune becomes the talk of the town and comes to the attention of burglars who sets out to discover the secrete behind his sudden rise in wealth and when they do the vessel gets lost in the process.

Presently, Masha (Revathi) the godmother of Akshu aka Akshaya (Jyotika) as a team they trick and swindle money from rich people and give them to the poor. Exactly the role of Tamil cinema heroes, is it not? They also do not forget to enjoy life to its fullest every single day. In an instance they happen to brawl with a cop which puts them behind the bars. Inside the prison they get acquainted with a woman who speaks to them of the mythical atchaya Pathiram and tells them that it is buried in a cowshed in a farmhouse which belongs to a gangster and politician Manasthan (Anandraj). She also says that a vicious bull is protecting the vessel. Now, Masha and Akshu cannot refrain from think to steal the vessel after knowing that it could change their lives totally once for all. So they come up with a plan to loot the vessel. They seek the help of a mechanic Bhai (Motta Rajendran) who loves Masha on a one side affair. Ragul (Yogi Babu) also joins the team and aids them in ways he can. Did the team manage to unearth the mythical atchaya Pathiram vessel deceiving the bull and the politician, is what makes the rest of the flick.

Actress Jyotika has tried to get in to the character of a mass hero and in the process have trolled the heroes of Tamil cinema without giving an exception even to her husband Suriya. The actress has managed to shine to a degree in the massy character. She has also performed some high octane stunt sequences which like the mass heroes of Kollywood gets applauded and whistled. The actress, who begins with a mandatory mass introduction song travels throughout the film under the skin of a mass hero. Actress Revathy has put on a great show and have made us wonder why we do not get to see such a fine actress on screens more often in Tamil cinema. Yogi Babu, Mansoor Ali Khan, Anandaraj, and Mottai Rajendran have played their part extraordinarily and are a big plus to the comedy entertainer.

Cinematographer R. S. Anandakumar deserves a special mention for his colorful and vibrant visuals. Other technical departments of the film were also at their best.

Director Kalyaan seems like a man who does not want to care about logics or narration but he crafts films with a single agenda and that is to make people laugh. And the story teller has succeeded in his agenda in Jackpot. The flick for sure has its share of mistakes and in fact if you want to be critical and open about the movie it has nothing new to offer to the audience but is just baked with a pack of comedy scenes along a so called main plot.

On the whole, Jackpot is that kind of film where you do not enter the theater to get something out of it but to laugh and pass your time off.

Jackpot is a Tamil language comedy film that released in 2019, directed by Kalyaan, and starring Samuthirakani, Revathi, and Yogi Babu in the lead roles. The film is set in a small village and follows the lives of two eccentric and greedy gangs trying to get their hands on a jackpot of Rs. 5 crores. The movie opens with the introduction of the two gangs. One gang is headed by the notorious local politician Santos (Samuthirakani), and the other gang is led by the beautiful and sassy Lakshmi (Revathi). The two gangs are constantly at loggerheads with each other, and their primary objective throughout the movie is to steal the jackpot from each other.

Santos' gang consists of his loyal aide, a man named Tiger (Yogi Babu), and a host of other goons. On the other hand, Lakshmi's gang includes her husband Vallavan (Anandaraj) and a group of young, energetic men.

The main plot of the film revolves around a game show hosted by a television channel, where people can win a jackpot of Rs. 5 crores. To win the jackpot, a player has to answer a series of questions correctly. Santos and Lakshmi hatch a plan to steal the jackpot from the game show by sending in their respective team members as participants.

What follows is a series of comical events, as both gangs try to outdo each other to win the jackpot. They go to great lengths to cheat and manipulate their way through the questions. However, things do not go as planned, and both teams end up getting eliminated from the game show.

The movie then takes a different turn as the two gangs join hands to steal the jackpot from a well-guarded bank. They again face various roadblocks while trying to execute their plan, and their attempts at robbing the bank lead to numerous hilarious situations.

One of the highlights of the movie is the comic timing of the lead actors. Yogi Babu, in particular, shines in his role as Tiger, providing ample comic relief throughout the film. Samuthirakani is excellent as Santos, playing his character with a mixture of menace and humour. Revathi is also impressive as Lakshmi, effortlessly portraying her character's bold and confident personality.

The movie also touches on the themes of greed and corruption prevalent in our society, with both gangs being motivated purely by their desire to get their hands on the jackpot. The message of the movie is conveyed subtly, without being preachy or overbearing.

Overall, Jackpot is a fun, light-hearted comedy film that will leave you in splits. The movie boasts of a talented cast of actors who deliver a stellar performance, and the direction by Kalyaan keeps the movie engaging and exciting from start to finish.
