​ Course Structure : The doctorate course starts with learning methods and techniques for research design, data collection, and data analysis in order to conduct, write up, and publish research that meets doctoral standards.  Soft copies of the Research Methodology & Computer application study material will be provided. In order to proceed to stage II, students are required to appear for online coursework exams on those two subjects. Successful completion of Stage I leads to Doctorate research and the thesis portion of the program consists primarily of individual research, under the supervision of a qualified professor who provides a broad range of expertise as well as an international reputation in technology, innovation, and change management. The Doctorate thesis should exhibit substantial evidence of original scholarship that meets publishing standards and provides useful managerial recommendations. After the supervisor’s approval, a draft soft copy of the thesis will be sent to the IMSR faculty to check the originality of the research. The thesis has to be at least 100 - 200 pages. On successful approval, you will be scheduled for Viva Voce and if successful, a Doctorate Certificate will be sent to the student at their address pending the next scheduled graduation either at the School or at a selected foreign place. Challenging, flexible and global – The SP Jain DBA is research in action.

SP Jain’s Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) is a doctoral program designed to meet the needs of high-achieving professionals who wish to enhance their business education through original research. The program includes topics specifically assigned to build your research skills and competencies in advanced areas of management and helps you develop the business expertise and technological prowess you need to advance your career.

The program builds on the business acumen of previously undertaken graduate studies, using global intelligence as a tool to solve business problems. It inspires you to develop new perspectives and approach business in an innovative way; it offers you the opportunity to study a real business issue in depth and immediately apply that knowledge in your working life, directly improving commercial outcomes within your organisation and beyond.

You can complete the program in three years full-time, or part-time in an equivalent period, and study online or at our campus in Sydney. The program offers all the academic rigour of a traditional PhD but is largely tailored to corporate executives and researchers who want a qualification that is practical and relevant to the organisation they work for.

Note: The program is not accredited or approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) or any regulatory body in India. 

DBA students who opt to study on-campus in Sydney may be able to continue to live and work in Australia by applying for a post-study work visa of up to 3 years upon completing the degree*

*As an on-campus international student, you may be able to continue to live and work in Australia temporarily following the completion of your doctoral degree at SP Jain. While graduating students can apply for a post-study work visa of up to 3 years per the current immigration guidelines, it is not a guaranteed program outcome. The objective of the Ph.D. Programme in Management is to equip students with necessary skills to identify and carry out research on complex issues in a specialized field of management. The programme is strongly committed to preparing thought leaders, both for the academic and corporate world. Graduates of the Ph.D. Programme in Management are placed in world class organizations in teaching, research and consulting positions. A total of 422 doctoral students have graduated from IIMA so far.

The Ph.D. Programme in Management seeks candidates with outstanding academic credentials, intellectual curiosity and discipline needed to make scholarly contributions that advance the frontiers of knowledge. It provides a diverse set of opportunities for interdisciplinary learning and research. The student opts for one of eleven functional/sectoral areas and acquires super specialized theoretical knowledge and mastery of practical aspects of the area.

The small class size allows close interaction with faculty members, who provide the intellectual stimulus and help develop the student's research interests and professional goals. Students generally spend a little over four years to complete their Ph.D. which includes two years of rigorous course work.

Course work in the first year provides a general management overview and develops basic skills for analyzing managerial problems. In the second year, students take advanced Ph.D. level courses in their areas of high levels of specialization. After completing the course work, students have to pass an area comprehensive examination to demonstrate that they have reached a level of proficiency in the area of high levels of specialization.  The Ph.D. dissertation, for the next couple of years, provides them with an opportunity to make original contribution to an area of management or to one of its source disciplines. Students admitted to the Ph.D. Programme receive a comprehensive fellowship that covers all costs and in addition provides a modest living allowance.

Does it help to have an MBA degree before entering the Ph.D. program?

Not really. From the first year itself the student takes Ph.D. level courses alongwith some PGP courses as recommended by his/her Academic Adviser. Hence, a student coming from non-management background is equally placed with those having a management background. Please check the area pages in the Ph.D. Prgramme in Management Brochure for specific requirements. For example, P&QM area encourages students who have a quantitative training from various disciplines to apply for their programme. Similarly, students with a background in Psychology may find the work done in the Organizational Behaviour useful.

Application form can be filled-in online. Application fee of Rs. 500/- can be paid through IIMA payment gateway. The purpose of the interview is to gauge the academic preparation of the candidate for her/his chosen high level of specialized area in the programme. It also gives the candidate an opportunity to find out if the programme meets the requirements of the student. The student is not expected to have prepared any research proposal. In addition to interview, some of the Areas may conduct written test.

Does the programme accept international students?

Yes, the programme accepts international students. The eligibility requirements are the same as for domestic students. Please write to us specifically for details on the admission process and fees.

How selective is IIMA? What are my chances of getting admitted? How many students are admitted each year?

The selection process is very rigorous and involves four levels of screening and interviews. The number of seats are not fixed for the programme and depend upon the calibre of the applicant who goes through a fair and rigorous selection process.

Do you have an option of doing high level of specialized inter-disciplinary research?

Yes. You could specify this at the time of application. However, you will be housed in one area of specialization. You could take courses on highly specialized areas of study from a variety of areas and choose your thesis topic that cuts across disciplines.

Is the courses work at IIMA very difficult?

The institute expects high levels of specialized academic rigour and integrity. It has stringent requirements at specified stages of the programme, and there are fair and open processes to check that each student passes these at every stage of the programme. The candidates who are unable to meet these requirements are asked to leave the programme without any prejudice. The process of natural justice is followed in each such case.

The overall experience of the recent immersion program was highly satisfying. Nothing quite matches the energy of in-person meetings. We had the privilege of attending the dynamic pre-conference sessions of iMarC, setting the tone for the immersion program. Professor Weng Marc Lim’s session stood out as a captivating highlight, offering profound insights. Professor Murugan’s SLR classes were instrumental in bringing clarity to complex concepts. Moreover, the opportunity to engage with supervisors and TAC members fostered fruitful idea exchanges. Meetings with the Director, Dean (Academics), and Dean (Research) provided valuable perspectives on the institute’s expectations. The Ph.D. Chairperson’s reassurance of the institute’s high standards left a lasting impression, giving us a clear understanding of what lies ahead.

The immersion program was a very well-crafted program. The Chief Guest of the program, Mr. Lim gave important insights on skills required to write a good paper that I can immediately apply. Session on Time Series Analysis and PLS- SEM were also very helpful and gave us enough food for thought.

I would have loved to stay in the Campus close to the professors to have more time for interactions and that is one area which the PhD office can explore for our next immersion. Overall, I would highly recommend this program to any scholar.

He is an alumnus of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), ICAI and IIM Shillong. He is a regular contributor of articles and opinion pieces in leading business dailies where he writes on macro-economy and policy-related topics. About Ph.D. (For working professionals)

Ph.D. (For working professionals) is a doctoral programme that has been specially curated by SGVU to provide opportunities to working professionals who are keenly interested in doing research and wish to receive a degree in the same field for further academic enhancement, career advancement and spreading research activities with industrial support, collaboration & promotion. This programme is designed to enhance research culture and encourage employed Scientists/ Engineers/ Technocrats/ Teachers/ Industry professionals or Working executives to improve their qualification and contribution towards society with the facility of research at their places along with the industrial collaboration.

We support seasoned professionals with corporate expertise, intellectual curiosity and a desire to conduct research to build a career in academia or advance their position to a strategic or consulting level. Working professionals can obtain advanced research skills through the programme to supplement their practical expertise. Over the course of three to four years, it enables professionals to gain experience in interdisciplinary research on a part-time basis. It enables them to present workable and long-lasting solutions facing enterprises.

Programme Details

Eligibility

• Any M.Tech. / M. Pharm. / M.A. / M. Com. / M.Sc. / M.B.A. / M.A. or equivalent Post Graduation Degree in the relevant stream with a minimum aggregate of 55% and above from a recognized university AND minimum working experience of 2 years in relevant field.
• Any B.Tech./ B.E. / B. Pharm. / B.Sc. (4 years) / BHMCT (Hotel Management and Catering Technology) or equivalent 4 years Bachelors degree in the relevant stream with a minimum aggregate of 7.5 GPA or 75% and above from a recognized university AND minimum working experience of 5 years in relevant field.
• Any B.Sc. / BBA / B.Com. / B.A. or 3 years Bachelors degree in the relevant stream with a minimum aggregate of 7.5 GPA or 75% and above from a recognized university AND minimum working experience of 5 years in relevant field. However, such candidates must also earn 40 additional credits in one year before/with the course work.

A relaxation of 5% of marks from specified eligibility shall be allowed for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layers)/Differently-abled categories, by the University.

Admission Information for Our PhD in Psychology

Admission requirements.

• A non-refundable, non-transferable $50 application fee will be posted on the current application upon enrollment (waived for qualifying service members, veterans, and military spouses – documentation verifying military status is required) .
• Send official college transcripts (mailed as sealed, unopened copies or sent via a direct electronic transcript system). A regionally or nationally accredited master’s degree with at least a 3.0 GPA is required for admission in good standing.
• Contact information  for 2 recommenders is required (approved recommenders are the student’s former college professors or supervisors).
• Statement of Purpose  is required (1,000-1,500 words, double spaced).
• Departmental approval is required.
• Applicants whose native language is other than English must submit official scores for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or an approved alternative assessment. For information on alternative assessments or TOEFL waivers, please call Admissions or view the official International Admissions policy .

Preliminary Acceptance

If you are sending in a preliminary transcript for acceptance, you must:

• Be in your final term and planning to start your doctoral degree after the last day of class for your master’s degree.
• Complete a Master’s Self-Certification Form confirming your completion date. You may download the form from the Forms and Downloads page or contact an admissions counselor to submit the form on your behalf.
• Submit an official transcript to confirm that you are in your final term. The preliminary transcript must show that you are within 6 credit hours of completion for a 30-48 credit hour master’s degree or within 9 credit hours of completion for a 49+ credit hour master’s degree.
• Send in an additional, final official transcript with a conferral date on it by the end of your first semester of enrollment in the new doctoral degree.
