  • Go to the toolbar at the top of the screen and click on the ‘Slide’ option.
  • In the dropdown menu, click on ‘Delete slide’. The selected slide will be deleted.

Tips for Managing Slides

Deleting slides is an important part of managing your Google Slides presentations. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  • Review before deleting: Make sure to review the content of a slide before deleting it. Once deleted, it can’t be recovered unless you immediately undo the action.
  • Use sections: Organizing your slides into sections can help manage them more effectively, making it easier to decide which slides to delete.
  • Consider hiding slides: If you’re unsure about deleting a slide, consider hiding it instead. Hidden slides are skipped during a presentation but can be easily reinstated if needed.

Why You Should Keep Your Presentation Concise

Maintaining a concise presentation is key to successful communication. A presentation loaded with excess information can easily overwhelm your audience and dilute your main message. Here are a few reasons why you should strive for conciseness in your presentations:

  • Improved clarity: The main objective of a presentation is clear communication. When your presentation is concise, your audience can more easily grasp your key points without getting lost in unnecessary details.
  • Better engagement: Audiences tend to stay engaged when the presentation is short and to the point. When presentations are overly lengthy, audience interest can wane, and the effectiveness of your message may suffer.
  • Respect for time: Keeping your presentation concise shows respect for your audience’s time. It demonstrates that you value their attention and have taken the time to distill your message to its most essential elements.
  • Enhanced memorability: A concise presentation with a focused message is more likely to stick in your audience’s memory. By eliminating extraneous information, you make it easier for your audience to remember the key points.

While it’s essential to be thorough in conveying your information, strive for balance. Keep your slides succinct, focused, and engaging. This will not only help to maintain audience interest, but will also enhance the effectiveness of your overall message. Remember, quality over quantity is the mantra for creating impactful presentations.

Deleting a slide in Google Slides is a simple and quick process. Whether you’re using the slide panel, context menu, or toolbar, you can easily manage your presentation to fit your specific needs.

Just remember to review the content of each slide before deletion to avoid removing important information. With these tips in hand, you’re well on your way to becoming a Google Slides expert.

Both methods will hide the selected slide during the presentation, but they’ll still be part of it (and can be unhidden later if needed).

Tip:  To unhide a Google Slide, follow the same steps but choose “Unskip slide”  instead.

How To Hide Multiple Slides in Google Slides

Instead of hiding a slide individually, Google Slides allows its users to hide multiple  slides simultaneously. Simply follow these steps:

  • Hold  Ctrl  (Windows, Chromebook, and Linux) or Command ⌘ (for Mac) to select the slides.

It is worth mentioning that while the process is simple, you’ll need to be careful when clicking which slides you want to hide. So, pay attention, or you might select a significant slide and accidentally ruin your presentation!

Advantages of Using Google Sides for Collaborative Work

In the modern remote work environment, Google Slides is an excellent tool for collaborative work because it can be shared with multiple users with minimal hassle.

Let’s take a closer look at some other benefits of using Google Slides as a group collaboration tool:

  • Real-time collaboration: Google Slides allows multiple people to simultaneously work on the same presentation. All changes one collaborator makes are immediately visible to the others, making it easier to work together while avoiding version control issues.
  • Easy to share: Sharing a Google Slides presentation is easy. The “ Share ” button is located in the screen’s top-right corner, making it simple to share with others. From there, you can enter the email addresses of the people with whom you wish to share the presentation, and they will receive an email invitation to view or edit the presentation.
  • Convenient revisions management: Keeping track of changes and revisions is essential when working on a project with multiple team members. Google Slides has a version history feature that lets you see who made the presentation changes and when. You can also revert to a previous version if necessary.
  • Seamless integration with Google tools: Google Slides integrates seamlessly with other Google tools , such as Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Sheets. This integration makes incorporating other documents and data into your presentation quickly and efficiently.
  • Accessible on multiple devices: Google Slides is a cloud-based tool, meaning you and your colleagues can access your presentations from any device with an internet connection. This feature is perfect for remote teams collaborating from different locations and time zones.

If you cannot delete a slide in Google Slides, there may be several reasons why this is happening. The most common reasons include:

  • You are not the presentation owner, or you do not have the necessary editing permissions. If you don’t have the proper access, you won’t be able to delete any of the slides.
  • There is only one slide in the presentation. Google Slides requires a minimum of one slide in a presentation, so if you try to delete the only slide, the program will not allow it. In this case, you can duplicate the slide and then delete the original to create a new presentation.
  • The slide contains a layout or a master element used by another slide in the presentation. In this case, you must remove the element or the layout from the other slide. Or learn how to remove a slide from Google Slides and remove the element from the duplicate.

Try refreshing the page or waiting for your connection to stabilize before attempting to delete the slide again.

And that’s how to delete a slide on Google Slides! Deleting a slide is necessary when creating or editing a presentation, but ensure you have selected the correct slide to avoid accidentally deleting the wrong one.

How to Delete Multiple Slides in PowerPoint

A powerpoint slide with multiple objects that can be selected and deleted

As a PowerPoint user, you may often find yourself needing to delete multiple slides from your presentation. Whether you want to restructure your content or remove unnecessary slides, doing it one slide at a time can be tedious and time-consuming. In this article, we will discuss why it’s important to delete multiple slides in PowerPoint, the traditional method of deleting slides, and the limitations of deleting one slide at a time. We will also provide step-by-step instructions on how to select multiple slides in PowerPoint, the benefits of using the selection pane, keyboard shortcuts for selection and deletion, and tips for efficient slide deletion. Table of Contents

Why it’s important to delete multiple slides in PowerPoint

Deleting multiple slides in PowerPoint can help you declutter your presentation and streamline your content. If you have a large presentation with many slides, you may find that some slides become redundant or no longer serve a purpose. Deleting them can improve the flow and focus of your presentation, making it more effective in delivering your message. Moreover, removing unnecessary slides can also reduce the file size of your presentation, making it easier to share or upload.

Another benefit of deleting multiple slides in PowerPoint is that it can save you time during the presentation. If you have too many slides, you may end up rushing through them or skipping important information. By removing unnecessary slides, you can focus on the most important points and ensure that your audience stays engaged throughout the presentation. Additionally, deleting multiple slides can also help you stay within the time limit, which is crucial for keeping your audience’s attention and delivering a successful presentation.

The traditional way of deleting slides in PowerPoint

The traditional way of deleting slides in PowerPoint involves selecting a single slide and clicking on the “Delete” button. To delete multiple slides using this method, you need to select each slide one at a time and repeat the process. While this works for a small number of slides, it can be frustrating and time-consuming for larger presentations, where you need to remove several slides at once.

Fortunately, there is a quicker way to delete multiple slides in PowerPoint. You can use the “Slide Sorter” view to select and delete multiple slides at once. To do this, simply click on the “View” tab in the PowerPoint ribbon, and then select “Slide Sorter” from the “Presentation Views” section. In this view, you can easily select multiple slides by holding down the “Ctrl” key and clicking on each slide you want to delete. Once you have selected all the slides you want to remove, simply press the “Delete” key on your keyboard, and they will be deleted in one go.

Limitations of deleting one slide at a time

Deleting slides one at a time can be tedious, but it also has its limitations. If you accidentally delete an important slide, you can only use the “Undo” button to retrieve it if you haven’t deleted too many other slides in the meantime. Additionally, you may find yourself needing to delete many slides at once, which can be a daunting and almost impossible task using the traditional method. Fortunately, PowerPoint offers several tools and methods to make this process more manageable.

One such tool is the “Slide Sorter” view, which allows you to see all of your slides at once and easily select multiple slides to delete at once. Another option is to use the “Selection Pane” to hide or delete multiple slides at once, based on their names or content. These methods can save you time and frustration when working with large presentations or when needing to make significant changes to your slide deck.

How to select multiple slides in PowerPoint

PowerPoint allows you to select multiple slides at once, making it easier to delete or rearrange them. Here’s how to select multiple slides:

  • Click on one slide you want to select.
  • Hold down the “Ctrl” key (Windows) or “Cmd” key (Mac) while clicking on the other slides you want to select.
  • Release the “Ctrl” or “Cmd” key once you have selected all the desired slides.

Alternatively, you can click and drag your cursor over a range of slides to select them all at once.

It’s important to note that when you select multiple slides, any changes you make will apply to all of the selected slides. This can be useful for making global changes to your presentation, but it can also be risky if you accidentally make a mistake.

If you want to deselect a slide that you have already selected, simply hold down the “Ctrl” or “Cmd” key and click on the slide again. This will remove it from your selection.

Understanding the selection pane in PowerPoint

The selection pane is a tool in PowerPoint that allows you to manage and organize your slides more efficiently. It displays a list of all the objects on your slide, including text boxes, shapes, images, and videos. With the selection pane, you can easily select, hide, reorder, or delete any object on your slide, including multiple slides at once. The selection pane can be accessed by clicking on the “Selection Pane” button under the “Editing” group on the “Home” tab.

One of the most useful features of the selection pane is the ability to rename objects on your slide. This can be especially helpful when working with complex slides that contain many different objects. By giving each object a descriptive name, you can quickly identify and select the object you need, without having to search through a long list of generic names.

Another benefit of using the selection pane is that it allows you to control the visibility of objects on your slide. By clicking on the “eye” icon next to an object’s name, you can hide it from view without deleting it. This can be useful when you want to temporarily remove an object from your slide, but still keep it for later use.

Using the selection pane to delete multiple slides

To delete multiple slides using the selection pane:

  • Click on the “Selection Pane” button.
  • Hold down the “Ctrl” key (Windows) or “Cmd” key (Mac) and click on the list items that match the slides you want to delete.
  • Right-click on the selected list items and click “Delete.”

This method is particularly useful when you have a large number of slides in your presentation and want to delete multiple slides at once. It saves time and effort compared to deleting each slide individually.

The benefits of using the selection pane for slide deletion

Using the selection pane to delete multiple slides has several benefits:

  • You can see the hierarchy of all the objects on your slide, making it easier to identify and delete any unnecessary objects or slides.
  • You can select and delete objects and slides that are hidden, grouped, or off-screen.
  • You can quickly and easily reorder your slides by dragging and dropping them within the selection pane.
  • You can use the selection pane in combination with other PowerPoint tools, such as the “Animation Pane” and the “Slide Sorter,” to manage your slides more effectively.

Another benefit of using the selection pane is that it allows you to rename objects and slides, making it easier to keep track of them. This can be especially helpful when working on a large presentation with many slides and objects.

In addition, the selection pane can be used to hide or show specific objects or slides, without actually deleting them. This can be useful when you want to temporarily remove certain elements from your presentation, without losing them completely.

Using keyboard shortcuts to select and delete multiple slides

PowerPoint offers several keyboard shortcuts that can speed up the process of selecting and deleting multiple slides:

  • To select all slides at once, press “Ctrl” + “A” (Windows) or “Cmd” + “A” (Mac).
  • To select a range of slides consecutively, click on the first slide, hold down the “Shift” key, and click on the last slide in the range.
  • To delete the selected slides, press the “Delete” key on your keyboard.

How to undo slide deletion

If you accidentally delete a slide, you can undo the deletion by pressing “Ctrl” + “Z” (Windows) or “Cmd” + “Z” (Mac) immediately after deleting the slide. You can also go to the “Home” tab, click on the “Undo” button, or press “Ctrl” + “Y” (Windows) or “Cmd” + “Shift” + “Z” (Mac) to redo the deletion if you changed your mind.

Tips for efficient slide deletion in PowerPoint

Deleting multiple slides in PowerPoint can be a breeze if you follow these tips:

  • Plan ahead and identify which slides you need to delete and which ones you want to keep.
  • Use the selection pane to manage your slides effectively.
  • Try using keyboard shortcuts to speed up the process.
  • Regularly review and update your presentation to keep it relevant and engaging.

Common mistakes to avoid when deleting multiple slides

Here are some common mistakes to avoid when deleting multiple slides:

  • Not double-checking which slides you are deleting.
  • Accidentally deleting necessary or important slides.
  • Deleting slides too hastily without considering their impact on the overall flow and message of the presentation.

Customizing the selection pane for easier slide management

You can customize the selection pane to suit your needs and preferences by clicking on the “Options” button at the bottom of the pane. From here, you can display more or fewer objects and adjust their order and visibility.

Alternative methods for deleting multiple slides in PowerPoint

Aside from using the selection pane, there are other methods for deleting multiple slides in PowerPoint:

  • You can use the “Slide Sorter” view to select and delete multiple slides at once.
  • You can use the “Delete Slides” button in the “Slides” group on the “Home” tab to remove selected slides.
  • You can use VBA macros to automate the process of deleting multiple slides. However, this requires some coding knowledge and should be used with caution.

Troubleshooting common issues when deleting multiple slides

If you encounter any issues when deleting multiple slides, such as missing or duplicate slides, unexpected changes to the layout or formatting, or errors in the slide numbering, try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Check for hidden or grouped slides using the selection pane.
  • Verify that the slide numbers are correct and update them if necessary.
  • Save your presentation often and make a backup copy before deleting anything.
  • If all else fails, contact Microsoft support for assistance.

Hopefully, this article has provided you with a comprehensive guide on how to delete multiple slides in PowerPoint. By following these tips and methods, you can efficiently manage and organize your presentation, resulting in a more effective and engaging slideshow. Remember to plan ahead, use the right tools, and be mindful of any potential issues and mistakes. Happy deleting!

Delete Unused Master Slides in PowerPoint! [An EASY Guide!]

By: Author Shrot Katewa

Delete Unused Master Slides in PowerPoint! [An EASY Guide!]

Having too many unnecessary slides in your PowerPoint can just as easily make your presentation quite heavy! It also makes for a poor user experience especially when you are short on time and you keep getting confused between slides.

One of the best things to do in such a scenario is to delete unused master slides!

To delete unused slide layouts in the slide master, first, click on the “View” menu and open the “Slide Master View”. Then, hover over the slide layout to confirm if it is not currently in use. If not, simply select the slide layout (or the master slide), right-click on it, and click on “Delete”.

In this article, I’ll walk you through how to identify the unused slides in the slide master, and how to delete them from your presentation. Plus, I’ll also share with you a neat trick that will help you delete all the unused master slides in one go!

So, let’s get started!

1. How to Identify Unused Master Slides in PowerPoint?

It can be really difficult to know which slide layouts you are using throughout your presentation if you don’t know where to look. And, you don’t want to inadvertently delete an incorrect slide layout as this will mess with your presentation design!

So, let’s first start with the basics. How do you identify the unused master slides in PowerPoint?

To see which slide layout is in use, you will need to open the slide master view first.

In Microsoft PowerPoint, a master slide usually has multiple slides under it. To identify an unused slide layout, follow the 2 easy steps below.

Step-1: Click on “Slide Master”

how to delete presentation on slides

The first step is to click on the  “View”  tab in the menu ribbon located at the top of the screen. In the  “View”  menu, click on the  “Slide Master”  option to access the master slide.

Step-2: Hover the pointer over the master slide

how to delete presentation on slides

In the  “Slide Master”  view, hover the pointer over the master slide from the slide layout navigation pane on the left side of the screen. Wait for 2 to 3 seconds.

If the master slide is in use, it will say  “used by slide(s)”  when you hover the pointer over it. If it shows  “used by no slides” , the slide layout is unused.

One thing to note is that the “used by slides(s)” number mentioned is the slide number and not the number of slides using the specific slide layout. So, in the case of the image above, the specific layout is being used by slide number 20.

2. How to Delete Unused Master Slides in PowerPoint?

Once you have identified the unused slides in slides master in PowerPoint, you can easily delete them. You can either use the  “delete”  key on your keyboard or click on the  “Delete Master”  options

Remember – before you start deleting any slides in PowerPoint , create a copy of your PowerPoint presentation as a backup!

2.1 Method 1 – Using the Delete Key

To delete an unused master slide in Microsoft PowerPoint using the  “delete”  key, follow the 2 simple steps.

Step-1: Click on the “View” menu

In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click on the  “View”  tab to open the  “View”  menu. Then click on the  “Slide Master”  option.

Step-2: Identify the slide and press the “delete” key

In the  “Slide Master”  view, hover over the slide layout that to identify whether it is used or not.

Then, click on the unused master slide from the slide layout navigation pane on the left side of the screen.

Now all you have to do is press the  “delete”  button on your keyboard. Alternatively, you can click on the  “Delete”  button in the  “Edit Master”  section of the  “Slide Master”  menu.

2.2 Method 2 – Using the Right-Click Option

how to delete presentation on slides

You can also delete an unused master slide using the  “Right-Click”  option.

The first step is to open the  “Slide Master” view. In the slide layout panel on the left side of the screen,  “Right Click”  on the unused master slide. Now all you have to do is click on the  “Delete Master”  option.

3. How to Delete Multiple Unused Master Slides in PowerPoint?

If there are multiple unused master slides in a PowerPoint presentation, you can delete them all at once. There are various ways to delete multiple master slides at once including manual and automated methods.

Let’s take a look at them one by one.

3.1 Method 1 – Delete Multiple Unused Master Slides Manually

how to delete presentation on slides

In Microsoft PowerPoint, you can manually delete multiple unused master slides very easily.

Once you open the  “Slide Master”  view from the  “View”  menu, press and hold on the  “shift”  key on your keyboard and click on all the unused master slides from the slide navigation pane.

Now you can follow the steps mentioned in Section 2 to delete all the master slides. You can either press the  “delete”  key on your keyboard, click on the “Delete” button, or use the  “Right Click”  option.

3.2 Method 2 – Using a Macro

You can also delete all the unused master slides by using a macro. It is the quickest way to delete master slides since you only need to create the macro once and run it in any Microsoft PowerPoint presentation at any time.

All you have to do is follow the 3 easy steps mentioned below –

Step-1: Click on “Macros”

how to delete presentation on slides

In the opened presentation, click on the  “View”  tab in the menu button. Then click on the  “Macros”  option.

You can alternatively press the  “Alt+F8”  keys on your keyboard. This will open a  “Macro”  dialog box.

Step-2: Create a new Macro

In the  “Macro”  dialog box, type in a title inside the  “Macro name”  box.

Then click on the  “Create”  button to create a new macro. This will open a  “Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications”  window.

Step-3: Paste the Macro code

In the next step, select the existing code (if any) and delete it using the “backspace” key or the “delete” key on your keyboard to clear the code.

Now all you have to do is copy the macro code mentioned below and paste it into the description box.

Then click on the  “Run sub”  icon which looks like the play button in the toolbar above the description box. Alternatively, you can press the  “F5” key on your keyboard.

This will delete all the unused master slides.

The macro code is as follows:

Sub SlideMasterCleanup() Dim i As Integer Dim j As Integer Dim oPres As Presentation Set oPres = ActivePresentation On Error Resume Next With oPres     For i = 1 To .Designs.Count         For j = .Designs(i).SlideMaster.CustomLayouts.Count To 1 Step -1             .Designs(i).SlideMaster.CustomLayouts(j).Delete         Next     Next i End With End Sub

3.3 Method 3 – Using PowerPoint Downsizer Add-in

The easiest way to delete multiple unused slides in Microsoft PowerPoint is to use the PowerPoint Downsizer add-in.

PowerPoint Downsizer is a third-party add-in specifically designed to delete unused master slides in PowerPoint. It helps to reduce the size of your PowerPoint presentation this way.

The steps to download and install this add-in are mentioned below. However, in case you need further assistance, check out my other article on add-ins in PowerPoint that shares further details!

Step-1: Download the PowerPoint Downsizer

The PowerPoint Downsizer is not available in the Office Add-ins store. You can click  here  to download the add-in. Once it is installed, click on the  “Run”  button in the dialog box.

Step-2: Click on the “Slide Master” option

The next step is to open the PowerPoint presentation. In the menu bar located at the top of the screen, click on the  “View” tab. Then click on the  “Slide Master”  option in the  “View”  menu.

Step-3: Click on “Downsize”

In the  “Slide Master”  menu, you will see a new  “Downsizer”  section added after the  “Edit Master”  section.

Click on the  “Downsize”  button in the  “Downsizer”  section and select the  “Downsize”  option from the dropdown menu.

Step-4: Click on the “Yes” button

Now all you have to do is click on the  “Yes”  button in the  “PowerPoint Downsizer Add-in”  dialog box. It will prompt another dialog box showing how many unused master slides along with slide layouts have been deleted.

Click on  “OK” to finish deleting all the unused master slides.

4. Can You Delete a Slide Master in PowerPoint?

In Microsoft PowerPoint, you can delete a master slide if it is not preserved and not being used in the presentation.

To delete the master slide, first, select the master slide that is currently not in use from the slide layout pane on the left side of the screen in the “Slide Master” view. Then, right-click on it and choose the “Delete” option.

However, remember that once you delete the master slide, you will also end up deleting all the layouts under the master slide! So, be sure which slide master you are deleting!

Here are the steps that you need to follow in order to delete the slide master –

Step 1 – Identify the “Slide Master” to be deleted

how to delete presentation on slides

First, make sure that you identify which slide master you need to delete.

To do that, hover over the “ Master Slide ” (the bigger slide in the slide preview on the left part of the screen) and keep the mouse still for a couple of seconds.

Step 2 – Delete the Slide Master

how to delete presentation on slides

Once you see the message “ used by no slides “, right-click on it. Then, from the options, click on the “ Delete ” option.

You can also delete the master slide by simply clicking on the “Delete” key on your keyboard.

5. How to Preserve the Master Slides in PowerPoint?

By preserving a master slide in a PowerPoint presentation, you basically tell PowerPoint that you intend to keep the master slide even when it is not in use.

To preserve the master slide, at first, you have to click on the “Slide Master” option in the “View” menu. In the “Slide Master” view, select the slide you want to preserve and click on the “Preserve” option.

You will see a pin icon appear on the left side of the preserved master slide.

Let’s take a look at the process step-by-step –

Step 1 – Select the “Master Slide” and preserve it

how to delete presentation on slides

To preserve the master slide, first, select the master that you wish to preserve. Then, “ right-click ” on it. From the options that appear, click on the “ Preserve Master ” option.

Step 2 – Verify that “Preserve Master” is enabled

how to delete presentation on slides

Now, just make sure that the preserve master option is indeed enabled.

To verify the same, just make sure that you see a “pin” icon next to the slide master. This indicates that the master has been preserved.

You can preserve multiple masters at the same time. You can also manually delete a slide master that is preserved. Just that the slide masters that are preserved will not be deleted automatically by PowerPoint.

6. Can’t Delete Master Slide – Delete Button is Greyed Out!

how to delete presentation on slides

Microsoft PowerPoint allows you to only delete the master slides that are not being used. If the master slide is being used in the presentation, you cannot delete the master slide.

If the  “Delete”  button in the  “Slide Master”  menu is greyed out, it means that you cannot delete the selected master slide since it is being used by one or more slides.

If you hover the pointer over the selected master slide, it will say  “used by slide(s)” . Thus, the  “Delete”  option is only available for master slides that are unused.

6 ways to create more interactive powerpoint presentations.

Engage your audience with cool, actionable features.

Quick Links

  • Add a QR code
  • Embed Microsoft Forms (Education or Business Only)
  • Embed a Live Web Page
  • Add Links and Menus
  • Add Clickable Images to Give More Info
  • Add a Countdown Timer

We've all been to a presentation where the speaker bores you to death with a mundane PowerPoint presentation. Actually, the speaker could have kept you much more engaged by adding some interactive features to their slideshow. Let's look into some of these options.

1. Add a QR code

Adding a QR code can be particularly useful if you want to direct your audience to an online form, website, or video.

Some websites have in-built ways to create a QR code. For example, on Microsoft Forms , when you click "Collect Responses," you'll see the QR code option via the icon highlighted in the screenshot below. You can either right-click the QR code to copy and paste it into your presentation, or click "Download" to add it to your device gallery to insert the QR code as a picture.

In fact, you can easily add a QR code to take your viewer to any website. On Microsoft Edge, right-click anywhere on a web page where there isn't already a link, and left-click "Create QR Code For This Page."

You can also create QR codes in other browsers, such as Chrome.

You can then copy or download the QR code to use wherever you like in your presentation.

2. Embed Microsoft Forms (Education or Business Only)

If you plan to send your PPT presentation to others—for example, if you're a trainer sending step-by-step instruction presentation, a teacher sending an independent learning task to your students, or a campaigner for your local councilor sending a persuasive PPT to constituents—you might want to embed a quiz, questionnaire, pole, or feedback survey in your presentation.

In PowerPoint, open the "Insert" tab on the ribbon, and in the Forms group, click "Forms". If you cannot see this option, you can add new buttons to the ribbon .

As at April 2024, this feature is only available for those using their work or school account. We're using a Microsoft 365 Personal account in the screenshot below, which is why the Forms icon is grayed out.

Then, a sidebar will appear on the right-hand side of your screen, where you can either choose a form you have already created or opt to craft a new form.

Now, you can share your PPT presentation with others , who can click the fields and submit their responses when they view the presentation.

3. Embed a Live Web Page

You could always screenshot a web page and paste that into your PPT, but that's not a very interactive addition to your presentation. Instead, you can embed a live web page into your PPT so that people with access to your presentation can interact actively with its contents.

To do this, we will need to add an add-in to our PPT account .

Add-ins are not always reliable or secure. Before installing an add-in to your Microsoft account, check that the author is a reputable company, and type the add-in's name into a search engine to read reviews and other users' experiences.

To embed a web page, add the Web Viewer add-in ( this is an add-in created by Microsoft ).

Go to the relevant slide and open the Web Viewer add-in. Then, copy and paste the secure URL into the field box, and remove https:// from the start of the address. In our example, we will add a selector wheel to our slide. Click "Preview" to see a sample of the web page's appearance in your presentation.

This is how ours will look.

When you or someone with access to your presentation views the slideshow, this web page will be live and interactive.

4. Add Links and Menus

As well as moving from one slide to the next through a keyboard action or mouse click, you can create links within your presentation to direct the audience to specific locations.

To create a link, right-click the outline of the clickable object, and click "Link."

In the Insert Hyperlink dialog box, click "Place In This Document," choose the landing destination, and click "OK."

What's more, to make it clear that an object is clickable, you can use action buttons. Open the "Insert" tab on the ribbon, click "Shape," and then choose an appropriate action button. Usefully, PPT will automatically prompt you to add a link to these shapes.

You might also want a menu that displays on every slide. Once you have created the menu, add the links using the method outlined above. Then, select all the items, press Ctrl+C (copy), and then use Ctrl+V to paste them in your other slides.

5. Add Clickable Images to Give More Info

Through PowerPoint's animations, you can give your viewer the power to choose what they see and when they see it. This works nicely whether you're planning to send your presentation to others to run through independently or whether you're presenting in front of a group and want your audience to decide which action they want to take.

Start by creating the objects that will be clickable (trigger) and the items that will appear (pop-up).

Then, select all the pop-ups together. When you click "Animations" on the ribbon and choose an appropriate animation for the effect you want to achieve, this will be applied to all objects you have selected.

The next step is to rename the triggers in your presentation. To do this, open the "Home" tab, and in the Editing group, click "Select", and then "Selection Pane."

With the Selection Pane open, select each trigger on your slide individually, and rename them in the Selection Pane, so that they can be easily linked to in the next step.

Finally, go back to the first pop-up. Open the "Animations" tab, and in the Advanced Animation group, click the "Trigger" drop-down arrow. Then, you can set the item to appear when a trigger is clicked in your presentation.

If you want your item to disappear when the trigger is clicked again, select the pop-up, click "Add Animation" in the Advanced Animation group, choose an Exit animation, and follow the same step to link that animation to the trigger button.

6. Add a Countdown Timer

A great way to get your audience to engage with your PPT presentation is to keep them on edge by adding a countdown timer. Whether you're leading a presentation and want to let your audience stop to discuss a topic, or running an online quiz with time-limit questions, having a countdown timer means your audience will keep their eye on your slide throughout.

To do this, you need to animate text boxes or shapes containing your countdown numbers. Choose and format a shape and type the highest number that your countdown clock will need. In our case, we're creating a 10-second timer.

Now, with your shape selected, open the "Animations" tab on the ribbon and click the animation drop-down arrow. Then, in the Exit menu, click "Disappear."

Open the Animation Pane, and click the drop-down arrow next to the animation you've just added. From there, choose "Timing."

Make sure "On Click" is selected in the Start menu, and change the Delay option to "1 second," before clicking "OK."

Then, with this shape still selected, press Ctrl+C (copy), and then Ctrl+V (paste). In the second box, type 9 . With the Animation Pane still open and this second shape selected, click the drop-down arrow and choose "Timing" again. Change the Start option to "After Previous," and make sure the Delay option is 1 second. Then, click "OK."

We can now use this second shape as our template, as when we copy and paste it again, the animations will also duplicate. With this second shape selected, press Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V, type 8 into the box, and continue to do the same until you get to 0 .

Next, remove the animations from the "0" box, as you don't want this to disappear. To do this, click the shape, and in the Animation Pane drop-down, click "Remove."

You now need to layer them in order. Right-click the box containing number 1, and click "Bring To Front." You will now see that box on the top. Do the same with the other numbers in ascending order.

Finally, you need to align the objects together. Click anywhere on your slide and press Ctrl+A. Then, in the Home tab on the ribbon, click "Arrange." First click "Align Center," and then bring the menu up again, so that you can click "Align Middle."

Press Ctrl+A again to select your timer, and you can then move your timer or copy and paste it elsewhere.

Press F5 to see the presentation in action, and when you get to the slide containing the timer, click anywhere on the slide to see your countdown timer in action!

Now that your PPT presentation is more interactive, make sure you've avoided these eight common presentational mistakes before you present your slides.

How to Delete a Page in Word for Your Thesis/Dissertation? [For Students]

Writing today involves more than just putting words on a document; it requires management across various digital intricacies that can suddenly throw you off course. As a writer who spends hours working with document processors, I've learned how to solve those unexpected digital problems, like unwanted blank pages that appear without warning.

If you're a student dealing with those pesky blank pages just when you're about to submit an important assignment or thesis, it can be incredibly frustrating. In this article, I'll demonstrate to you how to get rid of those unwanted pages and keep your work neat and presentable.

Common Problems About Deleting a Page in Word

Blank pages can be a real headache. They sometimes appear out of nowhere, and other times, trying to delete them messes up your formatting. These are among the most common issues when it comes to deleting pages in Word, enough to make you want to tear your hair out.

1.Deleting a Blank Page Caused by a Table

If you're working on a thesis dissertation, you're likely to include tables to present and organize data. However, when using Microsoft Word, you might find an extra page appearing unexpectedly, and your table could be the reason behind it. This occurs because tables in Word end with a paragraph mark. If the table is at the bottom of a page and there's no room for the paragraph mark, Word automatically adds a new page. This can be frustrating when you're aiming for a polished, professional document. The good news is that you can resolve this issue with a few simple steps to keep your thesis looking its best.

2.Deleting Blank Pages in the Middle of a Document

Stray paragraph marks, page breaks, and section breaks are just a few reasons why extra pages appear in a document. This can be especially problematic when these unwanted pages appear in the middle of a long document, such as a thesis or a report. Deleting these extra pages can eventually be a massive pain in the back, especially when you need to maintain a consistent layout throughout the document.

How to Delete an Extra Page Caused by a Table

A simple backspace is clearly not going to help you as you try to remove the annoying extra page. But believe it or not these methods and steps on how to remove and delete blank page in Word, is actually pretty simple:

Reduce Paragraph Mark Font Size to Remove Blank Page After Table

A somewhat simple method to remove a blank page in Word caused by a table is by altering the font size, so let's explore this method:

Step 1 : First, open the document in Microsoft Word where the extra page was added due to a table.

Step 2 : Now, let's activate the paragraph marks by going to the “Home” tab and then clicking on the “Paragraph Marks” icon to show paragraph marks in your document.

Step 3 : You will see a single paragraph mark on the blank page, select it using your mouse.

Step 4 : Now, in the “Home” tab, reduce the font size in the “Font” section. You might want to reduce the font to as little as '1' to remove the blank page.

This method is viable and can be considered as a quick fix to remove blank pages caused by tables in Word documents.

Apply the Hidden Text Attribute

If you're wondering how to remove a blank page in Word, one approach involves hiding the unwanted page rather than completely deleting it. This method doesn't actually remove the page but makes it invisible when printing or sharing the document. It's a quick workaround, but keep in mind that the blank page still exists in the document structure. Here's how you can hide the blank page:

Step 1 : First, let's open the document in Word, and then click on the "Paragraph Marks" icon in the "Home" tab.

Step 2 : Next, let's select the paragraph mark on the blank page using the cursor and then right-click to open the Context menu.

Step 3 : Now, click on the "Font" option to open the Font dialog.

Step 4 : In the Font Dialog, go to the "Effects" section and then tick the "Hidden" checkbox, and then press "OK" to exit.

Step 5 : After that, hide paragraph marks by clicking on the "Paragraph Mark" icon in the Home tab.

Step 6 : Now you will see that the blank page has been hidden in the document.

Step 7 : However, if the blank page is still not hidden, head over to the "File" menu in the top left.

Step 8 : Now click on the "Options" button in the left side panel.

Step 9 : In the Options dialog, go to the "Display" tab on the left panel and then make sure the "Hidden" checkbox is unchecked. Click "OK" to exit the Options dialog.

This method is effective because by default, hidden content cannot be viewed and is not printed as well. However, they do occupy some extra space in the hard drive or cloud.

How to Delete a Blank Page Amid Your Work in Word

Losing formatting while trying to remove a blank page from your document can be insanely frustrating, and it feels like hours of effort have gone to waste. To help you tackle this problem without losing all your hard work, I've outlined the steps below on how to delete a blank page in Word . These instructions are designed to be simple and easy that work across various platforms, including mobile, Windows, and Mac. For the demonstration, I'll use WPS Office, a free software that's fully compatible with Word documents and even allows you to convert files to PDF without affecting the format.

Using Navigation pane

Using the navigation pane provides a more comprehensive view of your entire document, allowing you to see all the pages at once. Let's take a look at how to delete pages in Word using the navigation pane.

Step 1 : In Microsoft Word, go to the View Tab and check the "Navigation Pane" checkbox in the Show section.

Step 2 : The navigation pane dialog box will appear on the left side of the screen. Click on the "Pages" tab to see an overview of the pages in your document.

Step 3 : Now simply scroll through the navigation pane, select the Blank pages, and press the "Backspace" or "Delete" key on your keyboard to delete the blank page from your document.

It was as simple as that. I can tell you were about to lose your cool because, as a writer, I've been there too, spending countless hours getting frustrated over something that seems trivial but isn't—like deleting a page. But once you know how, it's really simple. Knowing how to operate on a navigation pane is especially important when you're working on a thesis, where there are so many pages, and having a clear overview of your content is crucial.

The navigation pane can be a lifesaver, not just for deleting unwanted pages but also for quickly checking if everything is in order. It lets you easily skim through your document, ensuring you haven't missed anything or have extra pages hiding in plain sight.

How to Delete a Page with Text in Word

If you find an unwanted blank page in the middle of your thesis, you can remove it by following these methods to delete a page with text in Word:

1.Removing page break

Page breaks are simple shortcuts provided by Microsoft Word to insert a new page into the document. Without them, you'd need to press Enter repeatedly to begin a new page. However, these page breaks can sometimes go unnoticed and result in blank pages in a document, which may look undesirable in a thesis or dissertation. Here are the steps to remove the blank pages caused by page breaks in a document.

Step 1 : In Microsoft Word, go to the Home tab and click on the "Paragraph Marks" icon in the Paragraph section.

Step 2 : Once the paragraph marks are enabled, scroll down to the blank page in your document. You will see "Page Break" written in your document.

Step 3 : Either select it with your cursor or place the cursor right after the page break and press "Backspace" to remove the empty page from your document.

2.Use the Shortcut Ctrl+G and Navigation Pane

Now, let's suppose there are some empty pages in the document, and there are no page breaks or section breaks. Instead, a new page was created by pressing the "Enter" key on the keyboard several times. If there is such a blank page in your document, there is a simple method to quickly find the blank pages, select all the text on the blank page, and then delete it from the document. Let's look at the step-by-step process of deleting pages in Word:

Step 1 : So, let's open our thesis in Microsoft Word, and at the bottom left on the status bar, click on the "Page" option to open the navigation pane.

Step 2 : Now, in the Navigation pane, identify the blank pages in your thesis and click on them to select the page.

Step 3 : Next, press the shortcut key "CTRL + G" to open the "Go To" feature in Microsoft Word.

Step 4 : In the "Go to what" pane, click on "Page" and then in the "Enter page number" field, enter "\page".

Step 5 : Now, click on the "Go To" button, and you will notice the entire page has been selected in the background.

Step 6 : Simply "Close" the "Go To" dialog by pressing the "Esc" key on your keyboard, and then press the "Backspace" key to remove the blank page.

Students working on a thesis can breathe a sigh of relief with these methods. Removing blank pages in Word is simple and straightforward, making it easier to maintain a clean and organized document. Not only will these methods help you get rid of unwanted pages, but they'll also give you a better overview of your entire thesis, allowing you to focus on the content without worrying about formatting issues.
