The heaviest tiger that has been recorded in the Guinness Book of Records at 465 kg is the Amur (Siberian) Tiger (Panthera tigris attaica). Siberian tigers are also generally the heaviest, with adult males often weighing over 272 kg and male Sumatran tigers (P. t. sumatrae) weigh only about 113 kg.

Tigers are mainly nocturnal, and normally solitary except when breeding. They prey on medium to large mammals such as deer, wild pigs and porcupines. They can bring down animals twice their size. Prey species determine how many tigers can survive in a given area. An agile animal, it swims well, and patrols its territory by marking it with droppings and other signs. Tigers are monogamous and usually give birth to 2-5 cubs after a gestation period of about 14-15 weeks; the majority of the cubs are born between February and May and nursed by their mothers for 5-6 months. The young cubs stay with their mother for a year or more. A female becomes sexually mature in 3 years and a male in 4 years.

An extremely adaptable animal, P. tigris lives in a variety of habitats, from tropical forests to mangrove swamps to deciduous woodlands. Tigers can also be found in a wide range of climates and range from the jungles of the subcontinent to the snows of the Russian Far East. In Bangladesh tigers were once found in every forest, but are now confined to the mangrove forests of the sundarbans , and are treated as a critically endangered species.

Of the eight subspecies of tigers five still survive: the Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) lives in Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Western Myanmar and Nepal; the Amur (Siberian) Tiger (P. t. attaica) in Siberia, Manchuria and Northeast China; the south China (Amoy) Tiger (P. t. ameyensis) in China; the Sumatran Tiger (P. t. sumatrae) in Sumatra; and the Indo-Chinese Tiger (P. t. corbetti) in Cambodia, China, Laos, Malaysia, Eastern Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. Three subspecies of tigers the Javan Tiger (P. t. sondaica), the Bali Tiger (P. t. balica), and the Caspian (Turan/Hyrcanian) Tiger (P. t. virgata) have become extinct in the last 50 years. Today it is estimated that fewer than 7,000 tigers survive in the wild in the following countries: Bangladesh (300-362), Bhutan (67-81), China (110-140), India (2,500-3,750), Myanmar (230-465), Nepal (93-97), Russia (330-337), Vietnam (200), Cambodia (150-300), Laos (?), North Korea (c 10), Thailand (250-501), Malaysia (491-510), and Indonesia (400-500).

In Bangladesh habitat loss, loss of prey, poaching for skin and other body parts, and killing by man are the major threats to tigers. The Royal Bengal Tiger has been included in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) Appendix 1, and in the 3rd Schedule of the Bangladesh (Wildlife) (Preservation) (Amendment) Act, 1974. Introduction:

Tiger is the largest carnivorous mammal animal of the cat family. It is found in Asia in large number. It has a strong and powerful body. Its forelimbs are very strong which helps him to jump forwards and run fast. Indian Government has symbolized it as the national animal.

Description:

Tiger is the world’s best animal. It is a very beautiful carnivorous animal. It looks like a big cat. It belongs to the family of Felidae. It has two beautiful eyes which is six times better than humans during night. Its eyes are same as domestic cat. But the white tigers have blue eyes. Its eyes look like a burning lamp in the dark night. It has two ears which helps him to hear the other animals’ voice while hunting. Tiger has four long canine teeth, two in upper jaw and rest two in lower jaw. These teeth are very helpful to catch the prey and strangulate it. It has a long tail also which plays a most important role while hunting its prey. Its tail helps him to maintain the balance while running fast behind prey.

Origin of tigers:

Where were the tigers originated? It is the most complicated question. Some says that the origin place of tigers is Asia, Some says Africa. But it is considered that tigers have their origin in Asian continent not in Africa. Chinese and Bengali tigers are resettled in Africa. They were released from zoos with the purpose of extending the survival and habitat of their species.

How Tiger Catch its Prey?

Generally tiger hunts for large or middle sized animals such as buffaloes, deer, crocodiles, leopards, pythons, etc. Tiger usually lives alone and hunts lonely also, not in a group. When it catches crocodile, it attacks on eyes first with its paws. After that it catches him in its jaw and strangulates till death. Tiger does not chase its prey for a long distance however, creep slowly-slowly behind prey and attack suddenly on it. At a time it can jump as far as 10 meters.

Tiger does not eat men, but sometimes it becomes men eater. It is because of a wound, weakness or just because it is too old. Tiger generally depends on cattle, horses, sheep, etc animals for food. It is revealed by the source of Encyclopedia that a tiger (which eats cattle) hunts an ox about every 5 days in its 60 to 70 years of age. If a tiger has trouble in finding food then it can eat birds, eggs or berries. And when, it cannot find any kind of food at all then it eats any kind of flesh available.

Feeding Capacity of a Tiger:

There are three basic requirements of a tiger, large prey, water and den in a dense forest far away from the society. In one time, an adult tiger require around 12 pounds of flesh to eat however it may eat 55 to 60 pounds of flesh during night. A tigress having 3 young cubs need around 280 kg of flesh at every 20 days.

Tiger as a National Animal:

Indian government has symbolized tiger as the National Animal of India. Behind declaring Tiger as a national animal, there are two main reasons:

  • First, Tiger is very strong and courageous.
  • Second, to give them protection because of decreasing numbers day by day.

Conclusion:

Tiger is a wild animal which belongs to the cat family. The number of tigers is decreasing day by day which is a big issue in front of us. It needs to get controlled by stopping all the illegal activities and smuggling of tigers. A tiger project campaign has been initiated by the Indian government in order to save tigers. Essay on the Tiger

There are plenty of wild animals in this world, and one of them is the Tiger. In Hindi, it is called Baagh. The tiger is a wild animal. Its scientific name is Panthera tigris. It belongs to the family “Felidae” and is the largest living species of cats. Its appearance is distinct with its outer body covered with orange-brown fur with black stripes running vertically on it. It is a carnivore and feeds on the flesh of animals it hunts. It is mostly found in the Indian subcontinent. In this essay on tiger, its behaviour, diet, hunting practices and other characteristics shall be discussed. Today it is an endangered animal, and that’s why students must learn about its habitat and other characteristics.

Learn about the wildest creature on the Vedantu to become familiar with its life and the nature around it.

Habitat and Physical Features

Tigers are mostly found in dense forests of Sunderbans in West Bengal, regions of Tripura and Assam as well as in certain places in central India. A tiger essay in English must contain some details about the majestic appearance of a tiger. A tiger has a large and strong body with brown fur and black vertical stripes. It has four legs, a large head, a long striped tail and a pair of glowing, ferocious eyes. Its feet are padded and it has sharp claws. It hunts and chews on its prey with its four sharp teeth.

The National Animal

Tiger is the national animal of India. Therefore, tigers are considered very sacred in India. Several folkloric tales contain stories about tigers. In Hindu mythology, tigers often act as vahana or mount for some Indian goddesses like Durga. Tigers are full of glorious might and unmatchable bravery. However, tigers are quite recluse creatures in their habitat, unlike lions. Although full of courage and power, tigers prefer to stay within their territories. The home of the tiger is called a “lair”.  Therefore, most tigers live inside their lair and territory. However, any national animal tiger essay will remain incomplete without discussing the family of tigers.

Habit

The female tiger is called a “tigress” and the offspring is called a “cub”. Unlike lions, male tigers do not stay in their lairs to protect them from attack. Both tigers and tigresses practice hunting during the day and sleep at night. A tiger’s roar is extremely loud and powerful. It communicates with the other tigers through its roars. Tigers are very clever animals. Their hunting tactics include hiding behind thick bushes and suddenly attacking their prey. Tigers generally eat small animals like deer, bullocks, antelope, etc. Tigers are often called man-eaters, however, they only prey on humans when they’re harmed by humans or cannot find any other animal to prey on.

Although this tiger essay states details about the power of a tiger, this tiger information in an English essay would be invalid without mentioning the kindness and generosity tigers display. Tigers are considered very kind creatures. They tend to share their prey with tigers outside their territories. Oftentimes, a male tiger raises cubs on his own without the tigress’s help. Tigers raise orphaned cubs belonging to other tigers as well.

Tiger Hunting and the Need for Conservation

Therefore, tigers tend to be extremely kind towards other, unrelated tigers. However, humans have not been so kind to tigers. This tiger essay writing would be incomplete without stating how humans treat tigers for their valuable skin, nails and bones. Tigers are one of the most endangered animals in the world. They are hunted by humans for their valuable skin, nails and bones. Humans also capture tigers in zoos, away from wildlife, which makes the animal unhappy.

They must be allowed to live and mate in their natural habitat, which again should be conserved. Like lions, tigers are tertiary or third-level consumers in a forest ecosystem. They feed on primary (herbivores) and secondary consumers and help in energy transmission in the food chain. Therefore, from an ecological point of view, tigers must be conserved to maintain balance in the ecosystem.

And with that, the tiger essay in English comes to its conclusion. In this essay, the behaviour of tigers, their diet and their hunting practices have been discussed. From this tiger essay, it can be concluded that tigers are very important creatures of wildlife.

My Favourite Animal Tiger- Essay in English

Tiger is the national animal of India. It is a wild animal found in places of West Bengal, Assam, central India, etc. In my favourite animal tiger essay, some characteristics of the tiger are discussed.

A short paragraph on tiger: The tiger is considered a sacred animal in India. It is present in numerous Indian folklores and is associated with Indian goddesses such as the goddess Durga. The tiger is a symbol of power, bravery and might.

The tiger is a carnivore and it preys on animals such as deer, bullocks, antelopes, etc. the female tiger is called the “tigress” and the offspring is the “cub”. Tigers live in “lairs”. What Do Bengal Tigers Eat?

The Bengal tiger, a majestic and powerful big cat, is an iconic symbol of the Indian subcontinent’s rich biodiversity. Known for their striking appearance and incredible strength, Bengal tigers are apex predators with a diverse diet that plays a crucial role in maintaining the balance of their ecosystems. In this blog post, we will explore the dietary preferences of Bengal tigers in detail, shedding light on the various foods they consume to survive in the wild.

what do bengal tigers eat

Deer, such as spotted deer (chital) and sambar deer, are primary prey for Bengal tigers. These large herbivores provide a substantial source of nutrition for the tigers due to their size and abundance in tiger habitats. Tigers are known for their stealth and agility when hunting deer, which they typically ambush and bring down with a single, powerful pounce.

2. Wild Boar

Wild boars are another important part of a Bengal tiger’s diet. These omnivores are found in forests and grasslands and are relatively easy prey for tigers. Tigers employ their strong jaws and sharp teeth to make quick work of wild boars, often consuming them in a single meal.

3. Gaur (Indian Bison)

Gaur, also known as Indian bison, is the largest wild cattle species in the world. Although they are formidable animals, Bengal tigers are known to take down gaur occasionally, showcasing their immense strength and predatory prowess. These large prey provide tigers with an abundant source of meat.

5. Nilgai (Blue Bull)

The nilgai, or blue bull, is a common prey species for Bengal tigers in their range. Nilgai are herbivorous antelopes that often serve as a readily available food source for tigers. Tigers use their stealth and ambush techniques to hunt nilgai successfully.

6. Wild Buffalo

In some regions, Bengal tigers also target wild water buffalo, particularly when other prey species are scarce. These massive animals are challenging to bring down, but tigers rely on their strength and cunning to secure a meal.

7. Small Mammals and Birds

While larger prey forms the bulk of their diet, Bengal tigers are opportunistic predators and may consume smaller mammals like hares, monkeys, and birds . These smaller animals provide a variety of nutrients and are often hunted when larger prey is scarce.

Tigers are known for their swimming abilities and occasionally hunt fish, particularly in regions where water bodies are abundant. They often wade into the water to catch fish with their powerful jaws and sharp teeth.

How Do Bengal Tigers Hunt Their Prey?

Bengal tigers are renowned for their exceptional hunting skills, which have evolved over millions of years to make them one of the most effective apex predators in the world. Their hunting strategy is a fascinating blend of stealth, strength, agility, and patience. Here’s a detailed look at how Bengal tigers hunt their prey:

1. Stalking and Observation:

Tigers begin their hunt by patiently stalking their prey from a distance. They use their excellent vision, acute hearing, and well-developed sense of smell to detect potential targets . Their striking coat, adorned with dark vertical stripes, helps them blend seamlessly into the tall grasses and shadows of the jungle, making them nearly invisible to unsuspecting prey.

2. Approach and Stealth:

Once a target is identified, the tiger goes into stealth mode, moving silently and meticulously towards its prey. Their padded paws make minimal noise, allowing them to get close without alerting their quarry. Their low posture and slow, deliberate movements help them stay hidden until the opportune moment arrives.

3. Ambush and Pounce:

Tigers are ambush predators, relying on surprise for a successful kill. They explode from their concealed position and pounce on their prey with remarkable speed and precision when they’re within striking distance. Their powerful hind legs propel them forward, often covering a distance of up to 10 meters (30 feet) in a single leap.

4. Throat or Neck Bite:

To ensure a quick and humane kill, Bengal tigers typically target the throat or neck of their prey. They use their massive jaws and sharp teeth to deliver a powerful bite that severs the spinal cord or causes suffocation by collapsing the windpipe. This method ensures that the prey is incapacitated swiftly and minimizes the risk of injury to the tiger.

5. Drag and Conceal:

After the successful kill, Bengal tigers often drag their prey to a secluded location to enjoy their meal in relative safety. This behavior is an instinctual response to avoid potential scavengers or predators that might steal their hard-earned meal.

6. Feeding:

Tigers can consume a significant portion of their kill in a single meal, devouring up to 40 kilograms (88 pounds) of meat in one sitting. They start by consuming the soft and nutritious organs, such as the liver and heart, before moving on to the muscle tissue. Tigers are strong enough to break bones to access the marrow, ensuring no part of the prey goes to waste.

7. Recovery and Rest:

After a hearty meal, Bengal tigers often rest and digest for several hours or even days. They need this downtime to recover their energy, especially if they’ve expended much during the hunt. During this period, they may also lick themselves clean to remove traces of blood and scent, reducing the risk of detection by potential rivals or scavengers.

8. Hunting Frequency:

Tigers are not always successful in their hunts, and their success rate varies depending on factors like the terrain, prey availability, and hunting skills. On average, they may hunt every 5 to 7 days, which can fluctuate significantly.

How Can Bengal Tigers Impact Our Environment?

Bengal tigers, as apex predators, have a profound impact on their environment, exerting significant ecological influence in the regions they inhabit. Their presence and behaviors play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of their ecosystems. Here’s a detailed look at how Bengal tigers can impact their environment:

1. Control of Prey Populations:

Bengal tigers are at the top of the food chain in their ecosystems, preying on various herbivores such as deer, wild boar, and gaur. By controlling the populations of these herbivores, tigers help prevent overgrazing and habitat degradation, which can occur when herbivore numbers are left unchecked. This, in turn, benefits the health of the forests and grasslands.

2. Diverse Prey Selection:

Tigers are opportunistic hunters and may switch between different prey species depending on availability. This behavior prevents any one herbivore species from becoming excessively abundant, promoting biodiversity in the ecosystem. It also ensures that tigers do not exhaust the populations of any particular prey species.

3. Carcass Scavengers:

After a tiger has finished a meal, scavengers such as vultures, hyenas, and jackals often feed on the remains of the carcass. This scavenging behavior contributes to the efficient recycling of nutrients within the ecosystem. It also benefits other wildlife species that may not be direct competitors of the tiger for prey.

4. Habitat Management:

Tigers are territorial animals, and their presence can help regulate the movement of other predators and herbivores within their territory. This territorial behavior can indirectly influence the distribution and abundance of various species, contributing to a healthier and more balanced ecosystem.

5. Seed Dispersal:

Tigers play a role in seed dispersal as they move through their territories. They may carry plant seeds in their fur, which can be deposited across their range. This helps in the regeneration of plant species and contributes to the overall health of the forest.

6. Tourism and Conservation:

The charismatic nature of Bengal tigers attracts ecotourism, which can bring economic benefits to local communities and governments. These financial incentives often drive conservation efforts to protect tiger habitats and combat poaching, indirectly benefiting a wide range of species within the ecosystem.

7. Indication of Ecosystem Health:

The presence of a thriving Bengal tiger population is often an indicator of a healthy ecosystem. Their decline or disappearance can signal underlying issues such as habitat degradation, declining prey populations, or human disturbances that need to be addressed for the overall well-being of the environment.

8. Cultural and Spiritual Significance:

Bengal tigers hold cultural and spiritual significance in many societies. Their presence can contribute to cultural identity and traditions, fostering a connection to the natural world. This can, in turn, lead to increased efforts to protect their habitats and conserve biodiversity.

Final Words

In conclusion, the hunting prowess of Bengal tigers, showcased in their stealthy stalking, precise ambushes, and powerful bites, is a testament to their status as apex predators. Through this intricate dance of predator and prey, they answer the age-old question: What do Bengal tigers eat? Their dietary habits, deeply intertwined with their role in maintaining ecological balance, contribute to the health and diversity of their ecosystems. As we marvel at their hunting techniques and appreciate their importance in the wild, it becomes clear that the Bengal tiger’s survival is not just a matter of curiosity but a critical concern for preserving our planet’s natural wonders.

What is a good essay writing service?

Oddly enough, but many people still have not come across a quality service. A large number of users fall for deceivers who take their money without doing their job. And some still fulfill the agreements, but very badly.

A good essay writing service should first of all provide guarantees:

  • confidentiality of personal information;
  • for the terms of work;
  • for the timely transfer of the text to the customer;
  • for the previously agreed amount of money.

The company must have a polite support service that will competently advise the client, answer all questions and support until the end of the cooperation. Also, the team must get out of conflict situations correctly.

It is necessary to have several payment methods on the site to make it easier for the client to transfer money.

And of course, only highly qualified writers with a philological education should be present in the team, who will not make spelling and punctuation errors in the text, checking all the information and not stealing it from extraneous sites.
